Here’s my challenge to Agitator readers, bloggers, and others: In this comments thread, let’s compile a master list of admitted pot smokers—current or former—who not only haven’t ended up as heroin junkies or burnouts, but have gone on to lead successful lives. If the person is famous, include a link. But feel free to add yourselves and what you do now, too, if you fit the criteria. School teacher? Cop? Stay at home mom? Grad student? Count yourself in. You can leave out your name if you like. Or include it. Either way.

For as low as $3000, would-be world leaders can also place their rear in the Gunlocke chair. It doesn’t really appear to give enough lower-back support for an infirm old man like me, but Obama may be able to deal with it.

Gunlocke offers an interesting list of historic events that during which their chairs have provided the President comfort and support, here are a few:

1933 – The Washington chair arrives in the Oval Office with the Roosevelt administration. In it, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the New Deal legislation, ends prohibition and declares war on Germany and Japan.

1945 – President Harry S. Truman oversees the end of World War II in Europe and later authorizes the use of atomic weapons on Japan, ending the Pacific conflict.

1961 – The 35th president of the United States takes office – John F. Kennedy. Events during his administration include the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the building of the Berlin Wall, the continuation of the Space Race, the Civil Rights Movement and early events of the Vietnam War. The Washington chair is spotlighted on the cover of leading magazines as Kennedy and his son, “John John”, are captured on film sharing special family moments.

1981 – On the last day of his administration, President Jimmy Carter is relieved as the Iran hostage crisis is finally resolved after 444 days of 52 U.S. diplomats being held hostage. His Gunlocke Washington chair is eventually displayed in his presidential library.

Having stumbled across his site, linked from a scubaboard forum, I was amazed. Regan has built his own 1/10 sale WORKING replica of the Nautilus from Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with Kirk Douglas, James Mason and Peter Lorre. Most people I know would be super satisfied with their own working replica of the coolest submarine EVER — but Regan, no. He’s made replica diving suits and spear guns from the movie and that still isn’t enough — he didn’t just restore a diving helment from the 1954 film he restore and dove a helmet from the film!

It appears Mr. Regan splits his time between California, Hawaii and of course ‘Vulcania’ — the Island where Nemo kept his base. Photos show diving in Hawaii and Nautilus testing in Benicia, CA. He not only shares a chronicle of events and activities dating back to 2003, but even shares plans for his mock-up of the Nemo rifle. How cool!

I love scuba diving. Watching this movie as a kid helped inspire both my love of reading (I remember reading Verne over and over after seeing the film,) diving and photography. This stuff is just awesome. Really, Pat Regan — YOU ROCK.

Last night we saw The Thomas Crown Affair. Steve McQueen rules; Fay Dunaway is in her prime. McQueen plays Thomas Crown, a handsome rich guy who masterminds a perfect crime. Dunaway is an insurance investigator who, investigating the crime, begins a very flirty relationship with Crown. There is awesome use of split-screens and imagery—the “chess scene,” for instance—that you simply don’t get in most of today’s films. I suggest checking TCM and seeing if they’re going to replay it soon.

I’ve never seen the 1999 remake. I wonder if they do the chess scene and if it is any good?

It is with a sad heart that I inform you, Herb Peterson, the inventor of the Egg McMuffin has passed away. Owner of several McDonald’s franchises in the Santa Barbara, CA area, Herb was unknown to me — while his invention is something I think of far too often.

Fraker, who said he worked with Peterson for 30 years, said “he was amazing as far as giving back to the community.”

“He embraced the community and the community embraced him,” Fraker said. “We loved the man.”

Stealing from the King of Cool: not cool.

Chadwick McQueen and The Terry McQueen Testamentary Trust say in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan that McQueen’s name and likeness have been ripped off by Belstaff USA Corp. They’ve asked the court to stop the company from marketing jackets, coats, sweaters, T-shirts, pants and shoes under the name of the actor, who starred in classics such as “Bullitt” and “The Great Escape” and died in 1980.

The “Mr. Show” duo of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross are returning to HBO with “David’s Situation,” a new comedy pilot starring Cross.

Odenkirk and Cross co-wrote the project, which will star Cross as himself. He leaves Hollywood to move into a suburban, gated community where he has two roommates, a right-wing conservative and a liberal hippie.

There’s two kinds of work in America: hard work and smart work. Which one are you doing now?

Growing up I loved the TV — nothing was better and late at night the funniest thing I ever saw was an infomercial. Not just any infomercial — and I’ve seen some winners. This was special, this was Tom Vu: real estate tycoon, professional poker player, super star.

Vu was amazing. He lectured and cajoled you to riches! Tom constantly reminded you he had more than you and if you wanted to be rich and have fancy sports cars there was only one way: his.

Today I’m gonna show you how to drive a sports car. First, you need a lot of money!

Evidently the great Vu ran into some trouble and decided to focus on his poker career. Perhaps helping others get rich isn’t all its cracked up to be? He’s fairly competitive, and has performed well in the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker (22nd in 2005.)
