Colin McRae Dies in Helicopter Crash

The Times of London is reporting that world champion rally driver Colin McRae has died in a helicopter crash, along with his son. [TimesOnline.co.uk]

From The Local, an English-language Swedish paper:
On Sunday evening, Murray hit the town with some golfers who had participated in the Scandinavian Masters tournament. When the evening’s festivities at CafĂ© Opera drew to a close, he hopped into a golf cart and made a beeline for his hotel.
Soon however police asked the American actor to […]

The Zipcar Marijuana Prank

This is a true story, although it did not occur in my workplace. For obvious reasons, I have removed the original names. A friend writes:
A co-worker of mine recently rented a car from Zipcar. [In Canada, I would add. - Ed.] He found an unexpected bonus in the glove box—an ounce of weed was left […]

Dedication to Drunken Mobility

A man in Orange County suspected of driving drunk was captured Tuesday night after he jumped out of a vehicle and ran from officers still holding a beer in his hand, according to the sheriff’s deputies.

Leading the Way in Radical Thought

I didn’t even bother watching the whole thing before pausing it to link it up here. This might be the best video ever unleashed on the internet.
Update: Man, I can’t stop watching this. The more I watch, the more I notice: the fantastic editing; the clips from the live-action Initial D job; “Cockamura” family; the […]

Killing the World Softly

You’re killing the world softly with your kiss. [bbc.news.co.uk]

A group of giggling teenagers gather around an airbag, having convinced one of their friends to sit on it while they ignite it. Considering how badly some people are burnt by the expanding gasses of an airbag, I’m surprised the kid didn’t have scorched balls.

Ping Magazine has a nice interview with Alex Kubalsky, an Australian who moved to Japan in an attempt to get a job designing toys (and almost didn’t pull it off). Despite the intricate transformations, Kubalsky doesn’t use computers for his designs, but instead documents the whole multi-step changes out on graph paper.
His smirking Bumblebee design […]

Morning Tonic: General Leif

What’s not to love about a Volvo in Dukes of Hazzard livery named “The General Leif”? Those Dukansson boys are up to no good!

If you just look at these user-made screenshots from the Xbox 360 game Forza Motorsport 2, you might not realize why they are so cool—putting a fancy paint job on a videogame car isn’t exactly difficult, you could presume. But the thing about these cars is that Forza 2 doesn’t let you upload graphics into […]

A poster at videogame forum Quarter to Three has built a custom racing cabinet for just $17, using the sort of “Let’s just dick around at Home Depot” engineer acumen I think we can all appreciate. Sure, it’s clearly made of raw lumber, but you can’t beat the satisfaction of DIY, especially when the full-sized […]
