Being auctioned off for the Caroll Shelby Childrens Foundation is one Shelby Black Hornet, a classic Mustang chassis with a Cobra Jet 428 V8 engine producing 335 hp, Edelbrook aluminum heads, a top-loader 4-speed transmission and Shelby 10-spoke wheels.

The Times has a light piece about Lauren J. Reilly, a 31-year-old Manhattanite who owns a stock 1981 DeLorean. She’s single, boys.

“One time I was down in Philly, and behind me I hear this megaphone from the cops,” she said. “They’re like, ‘Pull over!’ ”
Before Ms. Reilly could comprehend her violation, an officer delivered one of the film’s famous quotes over the police car’s loudspeaker: “One point twenty-one gigawatts!” (She also gets a lot of “88 miles per hour!”) The officers watched her car while she and a friend got cheesesteaks.

Oh the times I have wanted to hit the eject button! Perhaps to launch a rocket and destroy the slow jerk in the Caddy? Or to vaporize the small woman in the RAV-4? Seems such cool gadgetry is available outside of Q’s labs — you just need the disposable cash of a drug runner.

Mexican soldiers battling a violent drug gang and corrupt local police confiscated a sport utility vehicle decked out with extras worthy of a James Bond movie.

What kind of cool tricks did the drug runners install? Nothing nearly as cool as we’d like — I need a rocket booster, lasers and the Mach 5’s tree trimmers — plus a Spy Hunter oil slick. I guess Mexican drug runners lack the same cash-reserves of say Columbian drug runners.

Evidently he was in a shopping cart, holding on to the Caddy. They hit a speed bump and his eulogy will be very embarrassing.

Cameron Bieberle, 18, of Winter Park was thrown to the ground after the Cadillac sport utility vehicle he was holding onto hit a speed bump late Saturday night, investigators said.

“He was riding alongside a Cadillac Escalade, sitting in the cart and hanging onto the side,” said Kim Miller, spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol. “The Escalade hit a speed bump and he was ejected.

Nissan has thrown up a teaser “microsite” for the upcoming GT-R, the successor to the famous Skyline GT-R line. It’s still listed as the “GT-R Proto”—that means “prototype”—but they’ve been showing off that design for so long I can’t imagine the production car will look terribly different. What is new is the price: the Nissan GT-R will start at around $68k in Japan.

Everything is subject to change, spec-wise, but the GT-R will likely see another twin-turbo-driven V-6 under the bonnet, all wheel drive, and a seven-speed paddle shifter. (Here’s hoping a traditional manual is available so that I may lust after that model with no intention to ever buy it.)

(Potentially-interesting-but-inaccurate GT-R trivia: I’ve always heard two reasons about why the Skyline never made it to America. The first was that the way the turbos fit onto the engine made it difficult to switch the steering wheel from the right to the left. [That always seemed unlikely to me.] The other was that Nissan had two monolithic design groups in house, one aligned with the Z and one aligned with the GT-R, but with the former given more clout within the company due to the Z’s legacy, despite the GT-R’s greater performance. Warning: This is all hearsay!)

The art of tailgating is something that has always boggled my mind. Sitting outside of a stadium, cooking and drinking (often in the freezing cold) and waiting for a game to start. It is really just glorified line-standing, but regardless, this Gameday Customs trailer will make tailgating that much better. It includes a 27-inch LCD TV, satellite dish, propane grill, generator, toilet, kegerator and even running water. The downside is the $14,000 price tag.

What ever happened to pounding off a $20 case of cheap beer an hour before the game started? Gameday has gotten so damn complicated.

A co-worker of mine recently rented a car from Zipcar. [In Canada, I would add. - Ed.] He found an unexpected bonus in the glove box—an ounce of weed was left by the previous owner. Excited by his surprise “score,” he unwisely mentioned it to another co-worker. Next thing you know he receives this letter in the mail.

The letter, in all its fake officious glory, plus denouement, after the jump.

NOTICE: Zipcar has contacted us saying a few people have already asked them about this policy this morning, so just to be doubly clear, Zipcar did not send this letter. It’s a fake letterhead created by this guy’s friends to screw with his head. Zipcar does not actually leave things in their cars as an “honesty trap.”
