Susie the Brewer

Things have been slow around here, I know. I’m actually ramping up on a couple of non-Dethroner-related projects that I hope to announce in the next few weeks, which has caused me to slack off here. I don’t know when and how Dethroner will shape up in the near future, but I haven’t thrown in […]

Gentleman, the culmination of every Dethroner discussion starts today as we embark on our most important theme ever: poop. Our guest experts this week are Josh Richman and Anish Sheth, M.D., authors of “What’s Your Poo Telling You?” They’ll be on hand as we take lower G.I. to all new heights.
Oh, the puns we will […]

The Modern Man’s Guide to Life, now tragically out of print, was the primary inspiration for Dethroner. So much so that I have forced myself not to consult it while working on the site, lest I rip the content right out of the book and slap it onto the screen.
What made Modern Man (and its […]

Susie and I are in KC for Memorial Day, tomorrow to South Missouri to visit the family graveyard, then hopefully a couple of days in a tent away from the internet. We probably won’t be updating until Tuesday. I am in terrible need of a little R&R.
When I get back, I’d like to talk about […]

The last three black dudes I saw on the N/W line wearing fresh ball caps were not wearing them with the 59/Fifty sticker on either side of the bill. Stupid white dudes trying to be all ghetto-savvy can now stop doing it too.

More Forum Invites

This weekend you can use the code “blossom” to log into the otherwise-private Dethroner Forum. Then your first post must be a Mayim Bialik photoshop. [Dethroner]

Two Things: RSS, Sad Porn

First of all, some folks have had problems with the RSS since we moved. Check your feed URL. It should be “http://feeds.feedburner.com/Dethroner”. If it isn’t, please update it! (I broke some of the old feeds when we moved. Sorry!) Secondly, I am trying to put together a piece for Dethroner about the “Saddest Moments in Porn,” the scenes, movies, or moments that weren’t the least bit alluring, but instead just totally depressing. If you have a suggestion, let me know. Thanks!

New Host

We have migrated from our old host POE to a new server at Wing Six. Still can’t say enough good about POE—I still host my other sites there—but we’ve outgrown the standard shared hosting they offer and need something that can more easily scale to support the increased traffic we must have for this site to survive. Thank you to everyone at POE and Wing Six for the help in the migration. Readers, if you run into any snags, feel free to pass error reports on to me. In theory, there should be less errors now. We’ve already squashed several on the backend that have increased the performance quite a bit. Next up: a design refresh.

From the latest newsletter from the best and most comprehensive free online resource on plants and drugs, mind and spirit, freedom and law, and arts and culture:
Funding is very low. We need to raise $5-10,000 in April.
While all is well at Erowid, the much-needed addition of a new crew member last fall has put a […]

At no point is a man more sure he’s ready to commit to a lifetime with one woman than when he’s buried neck deep in the crotch of a stripper so filled with cocaine her vagina looks like a snow drift. Or at least that’s what I’ve heard, having never been to a bachelor party […]

Webster’s would like us to believe and most would probably agree that gardening is “the act of cultivating or tending a garden”. That would be correct—but a guy would miss most of what gardening is by accepting this definition alone.
One could further distinguish gardening from, say, farming, by fundamental scale and intent. Gardening is done […]

Golf: you love it or hate it. In fact, a lot of people who love it also hate it. It’s an insidious pursuit with many layers of competition—man vs. self, man vs. nature, man vs. other men, man vs. wallet—lacquered atop the underlying truth that it’s a pretty damned hard sport. Hard enough that you’re […]
