From “Birdleg’s” Appalachian Trail journal:
Separated from his party, Danish explorer and prolific author Peter Freuchen dug a trench in the snow to escape a blizzard. He lay in the trench and slept. When he woke, he found himself buried beneath the snow and a thick, ice-encrusted surface. He tried to sit up but the ice [...]

If you haven’t been watching The Wire, one of the characters jumps something like three or four stories out of an apartment building and is able to hobble off. From an interview Alan Sepinwall’s blog:
Is it true that Donnie (Andrews, the inspiration for Omar) in real life jumped off a balcony the same height that [...]

I wasn’t expecting much from this little video commercial from GQ that describes the perfect man, but whoever produced it sure knows how to work the callback joke. [via Boinkology]

In case you can’t muster the gumption to watch that mammary masochism, you can watch Jack Black and the cast of Mr. Show explore a similar theme in “Joke!: The Musical” below.

German airmen have been catching some heat for making Blotwurst sausages using human blood from compatriots. Everything was fine until some fellow soldiers started to complain:
The incident only came to the attention of senior officers after one of their fellow soldiers reported the fact that he had been asked to donate some blood for the [...]

I’ve posted an interview that Seann did with Gygax back in ‘03 on Boing Boing Gadgets.

Because vasopressin, a neurochemical of attention and defense, also seems to be more involved in male mating, men are likely to feel more bonded if they’re already invested in the relationship in some way, if they need to defend the woman from danger or there’s [...]

An hour long discussion with Anthony Bourdain, moderated by Google Executive Chef Nate Keller. The story about Billy Joel is great.

You know what this is? A commercial on the site that I’m not getting paid to run. Damn your clever selection of Will Ferrell, Old Spice. (This movie looks horrible, just like all the previous Ferrell character movies that I’ve loved.)
Also, Old Spice smells like Old Spice.

Bacon Cups

“Not Martha” made these stunning bacon cups by cooking bacon around a muffin tin. My mouth is watering just looking at them. Imagine how good they’d be without the garnish?
For the next step, someone needs to make these watertight and make bacon rocks glasses.

Deadliest Catch: The Game

This is odd, but perhaps a smart tie-in: they’re making a Deadliest Catch videogame. I want to be the salty but fair guy!
