When Next Trapped in Snow, Remember the Dung Chisel
0 Comments Published by Joel March 18th, 2008 in Survival. Share ThisFrom “Birdleg’s” Appalachian Trail journal:
Separated from his party, Danish explorer and prolific author Peter Freuchen dug a trench in the snow to escape a blizzard. He lay in the trench and slept. When he woke, he found himself buried beneath the snow and a thick, ice-encrusted surface. He tried to sit up but the ice [...]

0 Comments Published by Joel March 17th, 2008 in Survival, TV. Share ThisIf you haven’t been watching The Wire, one of the characters jumps something like three or four stories out of an apartment building and is able to hobble off. From an interview Alan Sepinwall’s blog:
Is it true that Donnie (Andrews, the inspiration for Omar) in real life jumped off a balcony the same height that [...]

1 Comment Published by Joel March 5th, 2008 in Food, Meat. Share ThisGerman airmen have been catching some heat for making Blotwurst sausages using human blood from compatriots. Everything was fine until some fellow soldiers started to complain:

6 Comments Published by Joel March 4th, 2008 in Jobs, Vehicles. Share ThisI am captivated and horrified by aircraft in the first place, so this video of Lufthansa Flight LH44 from Munich landing in Hamburg—full, I’m told, of technology folk going to the big CeBIT gadget convention—is the sort of thing that will be running on a loop in my mind as I take a flight this [...]
How to Make a Man Bond with You After Sex
3 Comments Published by Joel March 3rd, 2008 in Relationships. Share ThisThis one’s for the ladies, courtesy of oxytocin expert Susan Kuchinskas:
Because vasopressin, a neurochemical of attention and defense, also seems to be more involved in male mating, men are likely to feel more bonded if they’re already invested in the relationship in some way, if they need to defend the woman from danger or there’s [...]

Video: Will Ferrell as Jackie Moon for Old Spice
1 Comment Published by Joel March 3rd, 2008 in Movies. Share ThisYou know what this is? A commercial on the site that I’m not getting paid to run. Damn your clever selection of Will Ferrell, Old Spice. (This movie looks horrible, just like all the previous Ferrell character movies that I’ve loved.)
Also, Old Spice smells like Old Spice.
“Not Martha” made these stunning bacon cups by cooking bacon around a muffin tin. My mouth is watering just looking at them. Imagine how good they’d be without the garnish?
For the next step, someone needs to make these watertight and make bacon rocks glasses.
