TV: Bravo’s Top Design Starts This Month

The only reason anyone would call Top Chef a guilty pleasure is because it’s on Bravo, the network for big homos. [Clarification: Which is to say that anyone calling it a "guily pleasure" is an idiot.] Top Chef is one of my favorite programs, pitting talented people against each other in their chosen profession, a formula that should be par for the reality course (but for some reason isn’t). Combining cooking (or fashion, like on Bravo’s Project: Runway) with brutal competition offers a little something for everyone, mincing hetero and butch queer alike.

We finally got around to watching the most recent episode last night—way to own utterly, Mikey!—and noticed that Bravo will be cutting another show from the same mold: Top Design, with Todd Oldham as host. Interior design is a field that seems to be filled with far more pretenders than cooking, so I’m interested in seeing if the show will be able to keep up the same “Wow, these guys are good” thoughts I get when watching Top Chef, or if we’ll get a lot of people turning tying scarves around lamps.
