A Resolution for Your Browser: New Year’s Home Page
Posted in: Gadgets
Since we can safely presume we’re a big bunch of internet dweebs, perhaps we should take some of the advice from this Metafilter thread and change our web browser’s startup page from its default settings. There are hundreds of domains out there designed to function as portals and start pages, but I’d like to suggest a couple of my own: “about:blank” will cause your browser to load a blank page, meaning you’ll get instant startup of each new window; “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Randompage” will cause every new browser window to open up on a random page from Wikipedia, adding a pleasant degree of distracting trivia into your daily browsing experience.
Of course, you could set your home page to be Dethroner, but even I don’t do that. (I’ve been doing the random Wikipedia page for about six months since I saw the tip on Lifehacker—a site we’re getting dangerously close to editorially with this week’s theme.)
