Saturday Project: Future Warrior Helmet

Posted in: DIY

I spent far too much time turning the helmet on the left into the helmet on the right, but my girlfriend is going as a generic scantily-clad future warrior and I got all caught up in making her look properly post-apocalyptic. You can’t really see it, but there are 15 LEDs on the forehead arranged in a \|/ shape and triggered by that silver button.

It was my first excuse to use the Cold Heat soldering iron that I’d gotten a few months ago and it worked a treat—the little built-in light is especially nice—but the real star of the project was the Stanley Contractor Grade Glue Pro Glue Gun GR100. With two heat settings and a built-in, kick-down stand, it made it very easy to put down as little or as much glue as I needed without getting a ton of those angel hair strings from the fast cooling glue. You can’t really see it in the picture, but down around the front there are lots of little gears and other metal bits I found in a bag of replacement watch parts; The precise output of the glue gun made working with those tiny parts really simple.

Anybody else working on crafty Halloween projects?
