Kettlebells: Pumping Iron the Old Fashioned Way

Posted in: Fitness

kettlebell.jpgI am so out of it when it comes to exercise. Apparently traditional weight lifting is old hat; kettlebells are back on the scene.

What’s a kettlebell? You may recall seeing them hoisted in the air by mustachioed strongmen wearing striped tights in days of hypothetical yore—it’s basically an iron weight with a handle on it.

According to RussianKettleBell.com, a starter kettlebell weighs 35 pounds, or one “pood.” Before you start swinging yours wildly around the apartment, though, you might consider one of the training videos they’re pitching, “Enter the Kettlebell” or “From Russia with Tough Love.” (No joke.)

Does anybody besides Comrade Mark A., who suggested these things, actually use a kettlebell?
