Morning Tonic: Christopher’s Punctured Romance

In the first half of the ’60s, Harvey Kurtzman (of MAD Magazine and EC Publications fame) ran a comedy/culture magazine called “Help!” which, while never making much money, helped launch the careers of several influential writers and artists. Help! was one of the first outlets for a young R. Crumb, and Gloria Steinem worked as an assistant alongside Terry Gilliam.

In this piece by Gilliam, titled “Christopher’s Punctured Romance,” John Cleese comes home to discover his daughter’s Barbie doll has become far more alluring that he could ever have imagined. Creepiness ensues.
