Play Along with Dethroner at Home

Posted in: Announcements, DIY, Gadgets

altoids_elec.jpgNot to distract you since we’ve just stepped into Fatherhood week, but next week our theme will be “Basic Electronics” (or something like that), guest hosted by Aaron Dunlap of the Electroids Co. In the first of what I hope will be many interactive theme weeks to come, Aaron will be walking us all through the assembly of one of his 9-volt USB chargers that can be nestled inside an Altoids chewing gum tin.

That means if you’d like to work along with us from home, you’ll need to order the kit from him by tomorrow if you want to have it in place by next Monday. “If this will be your first time working with electronics,” explains Aaron, “You’ll want to go out to a Radio Shack or hardware store and pick up a simple soldering iron, some solder, a multi-meter, some 22 or 26 gauge hookup wire, and some electrical tape. These are the staple products for any DIYer, and are always good to have on-hand. Might as well pick up a few tins of various Altoids products; for your breath, if nothing else.”

Do me a favor and mention somewhere when you order that you purchased via Dethroner. It’ll give us a some idea of how many people are playing along at home.

If you have any other ideas for “Play at home” themes we can do, send me an email. I’ve already got one other one coming together that I think will be a hoot.
