Clips: Deadwood with Laugh Track

This series of clips from HBO’s Deadwood—arguably the best Western ever filmed—become entirely offputting when a laugh track is laid underneath. And not just any laugh track, but the sort of “No, really, this is a real audience” laugh track that sounds authentic—an HBO laugh track. (In fact, I wonder if it isn’t from “Lucky Louie.”) Contrasted with the hyper-reality of Deadwood, it’s disturbing.
