Carlsberg has mercilessly shut down the historic Tetley on Leeds brewery in an effort to cut costs in a belt-tightening economy. Yeah, yeah the loss of a historic brewery like Tetley; which has been brewed on the site since 1822 and will be moved to some other brewery down south. I guess in these wonderful days of science the location and water may be less important than in olden times.
The thing that caught my eye in the story was this…
One of Britain’s best-known breweries is to close with the loss of 170 jobs as the recession bites into demand and pub closures rise above the rate of five a day.

Seriously — maybe the world is in economic collapse.

Actually thin may not be as bad as it sounds. One of the principal factors in pub mortality in the last few years has been high housing prices, which made it attractive for put owners to sell properties to convert to housing. With falling housing prices that may change.
