Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale

So, as I prepared to take the walk to the grill and begin the evenings artisty upon a marinated flank steak, I went to ice box. I’d wanted to give Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale a try last night, but I was afraid it wouldn’t be cold enough after just 3 hours in the cooler. Tonight, however, did not disappoint; this beer is more than cold, it is good.

I rarely enjoy fruit flavored beers — they over-do the fruit and taste too tart. Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale actually respects the beer! Jack’s is creamy but light and with a crisp finish. The cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg present in a really nice way, I could almost not find the clove, but it is hidden in there someplace. I’d describe it as a cream soda/light ale, lightly spiced. The pumpkin flavor is mild and blends really well with the ale and spices. Its funny but I think this may be a perfect Fall sitting by the fire beer.

I didn’t think I’d ever say this about an Anheuser-Busch beer, but I like it. I will have no problem finishing this six pack.

Good review, thanks. I’m going to pick some up this Friday to enjoy while wandering the neighborhood during trick or treat festivities. I saw Jacks on the shelves the other day, but like you assumed the worst with this being an AB product.

have you tried the new Budweiser American Ale from AB yet? I believe this is their effort to compete with Sam Adams. While I wouldn’t say that it is as good as Sam, for the price (~$5.75 in Tampa), it makes a fair substitute.

I will check out your other beer reviews when time permits.

I had Jack’s Pumpkin Spice last year and I swear it tastes different this year. I didn’t like it as much. I think my main issue with it is that it’s more of a “Fall spice” than “pumpkin spice.” Shipyard’s Pumpkinhead is still my favorite pumpkin beer because it actually tastes like pumpkin.
