Much like the devastating Cola Wars and nearly as uninteresting as the Browser War, it would appear the “Format War” is over and the winner is Blu-Ray.
Toshiba Corp (6502.T: Quote, Profile, Research) is planning to give up on its HD DVD format for high-definition video, conceding defeat to the competing Blu-Ray technology backed by Sony Corp (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research), a company source said on Saturday.

NetFlix may have ended up being the straw that broke the HD-DVD camel’s back, but Wal-Mart and Best Buy were really the one-two punch.
