Tom Petty’s performance at the Super Bowl was really sad for me. One great rock musician looking just tired and worn out — where was the hat? Where was the trademark sly and mischievous look? Petty looked bored and pissed he had to resort to playing this type of gig.I remembered that this documentary of the Traveling Wilburys is out there. You can see a number of rock and roll greats just having a blast — Roy  Orbison, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.

That really was the super group to end all super groups.

What a great band. I remember driving around with my pops when I was younger and the 2 of us rocking out the wilbury’s. First and probably the last time my dad and I ever agreed on music.

Nice, thanks for posting. FYI, your link to Part 3 is broken, though the correct link made it into the TITLE attribute.

Tom Petty is still a great rock presence. The superbowl venue is not like a live concert where an artist can shine and blast their musical talent to thousands of cheering fans. It is more of a circus atmosphere where football fans are rooting for their favorite teams. I wouldn’t judge Tom Petty by this shortened and brief performance. A good analogy would be having Brett Favre and Eli Manning open up for a Tom Petty concert with a passing competition.
