That is interesting if it is one of the few remaining cans - We have about 4 or 5 cans in the basement of my parents' house. I took a can backpacking with me last year!

Yes, I called up Celebrity Food number in NJ in 2005 when I was in Iraq. They told me they no longer imported the canned bacon.

There was tons of bacon at the dining facilities on base in Iraq, but that was cooked for you. I wanted something I could cook myself - makes me feel almost like I'm home.

The new Yoders canned bacon is nice if all you wanted was the bacon.

The Celebrity product was nice because you still had to cook it to your liking and the rendered lard could be used for other cooking and adding flavor to other dishes.

Yoders, you might as well buy the pre-cooked bacon in sealed bags by Hormel! Just ready to eat. No fun in that!

That bacon rocked. Sometimes you had to wash some of the salt off or you'd swell up if you ate much of it but it tasted like real country bacon.

That's too bad about the Yoders being fully cooked and not real cured.

Wish the real thing was still available.

I grew up with Celebrity bacon. My mother made a Hungarian dish and we'd use a whole can of it and it was the most flavorful bacon imaginable. I wish I could still buy it in the U.S. I used my last can a few days ago and it was definately over 20 years old. My mother bought it at KMart and a whole case of cans moved to different continents whenever I moved. If anyone can find a comparable substitute, please publish where it can be found.

Well here is the latest on all you celebrity canned bacon fans. You need to go to Europe. The only USA import company that ever sold or imported this bacon is Celebrity Foods aka Atalanta Corp. in Elizabeth New Jersey 908-351-8000 - I actually spoke to the gentleman that did the ordering of this bacon and all imports of this item was stopped more than 5 yeras ago completely. No more to Alaska or whatever anyone tells you. Sorry guys. I loved it too. Oh, and as for that BS company 'Yoder' it is nothing like the celebrity. It is not salt/smoke cured -its precooked with artificial smoke flavor. Its garbage. They compare themselves as the same but do not waste your money.

My Grandfather sold imported foods and we grew up on this. VERY greasy and VERY salty , but it would be fun to try another can for the memories.

Having fully cooked canned bacon is really beside the point. You can get fully cooked bacon anywhere; putting it in a can for $11 a pop is just an expensive marketing gimmick. While I appreciate the thought, canned bacon should be uncooked, packed in that globby, greasy salt concoction, and wrapped in wax paper with a key attached to the top of the can for opening. The bacon should be made from Danish pork bellies: nice and lean, with wide strips. DAK used to be the best canned bacon, with Celebrity a distant second (although when DAK stopped making it, we bought Celebrity because it was the only other brand out there)

I fed my family on canned bacon for years. It was cheaper and good tasting, too. The brand I bought at the stupidmarket was from Denmark, as I recall. I haven't seen any for years!
