Ed Levine’s New Year’s Dieting Rules
Published by Joel January 2nd, 2008 in Fitness, Food. Share ThisI like what Serious Eats‘ Ed Levine has to say about losing weight this year. Rigorous, boring systems never work; changing the way you appreciate food certainly does. Most of what he outlines are the very same things that helped me lose and keep off 45 pounds last year. (And will hopefully help me shed this last 20.)
I’m going to taste, not devour.
I’m going to eat half of everything I order.
I’m going to exercise four or five times a week instead of twice.
I’m going to eat more fruits and vegetables and less pork fat.
I’m going to try and eat more slowly.
It is winter, the season of wonderful citrus fruit. I’m going to eat grapefruit, oranges, and tangerines at least three times a day.
I’m going to try and not eat after 9 p.m.
To Eat or Not to Eat? That Is the Question [Serious Eats]
The not eat after 9 is a myth. While eating high carb content foods is bad after 9, (or rather before bed, since everyone has a different idea of a bedtime) fat and protein laden foods are actually something you SHOULD eat before bed, as they slow nighttime cravings and keep your metabolism going right to morning.
Actually, yeah, I’ve seen similar stuff. And plus it just seems logical that calories are calories no matter when they get used. I don’t tend to eat after 9pm just because it seems to make sleep less restful, although not markedly so.
Very nice tips. As someone that’s in the process of losing that last 15 that’s preventing me from entering the realm of unbridled sexiness, I agree whole-heartedly with the fruit and veggies angle - they become staples of my new lifestyle. I’m a bit bummed though as this time of year you cant find a damn peach anywhere, which just happens to be my favorite fruit. And that canned shit is, well, shit.
Well done for your efforts and the rules you’ve set to lose weight. Remember to have some fun, healthy eating is a life style change, just remember to take in less than you expend. Dieting means denial and that will ultimately mean failure. Make the head switch to healthy eating.
If all else fails what about a colon cleanse? i’ve heard all sorts about those?
Good luck.
