In a daring and apparently unprecedented bit of crime, someone broke into the Guinness brewery in Dublin yesterday and stole 450 kegs of beer and stout. And the manhunt is on.
Ireland’s national police force, the Garda Siochana, announced the nationwide manhunt earlier today. A lone man drove into the brewery Wednesday and hitched a fully loaded beer trailer to his truck, driving away with 180 kegs of Guinness stout, 180 kegs of Budweiser and 90 kegs of Danish beer Carlsberg. Guinness brews the latter two under license.
Wait, he stole Budweiser as well? Maybe Budweiser is viewed as an exotic American brew over the pond. That must make NASCAR a sport of kings.

Just a quick correction. Guinness is spelled with two “N’s”, not one as you have in the headline.
There is in fact another Budweiser, produced in the Czech Republic, which is pretty good (haven’t had the opportunity to try Anheuser-Busch’s Bud). The story went something like some enterpreneur used the brand in the new world without the knowledge of the original czech brewery’s knowledge. Of course there were some trademark disputes because of the name, the end result was something like A-B cannot use the Budweiser brand in Europe, only in the States. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the article is talking about the “real” Budweiser
Budweiser is viewed as exotic American horse piss over the pond.
i’m torn …should i worship this man or join the lynch mob?
I used to work for Budweiser actually, and yes, believe it or not, Budweiser is a popular beer in Ireland. It is actually the American brand Budweiser they are discussing in the article, which Guinness distributes, not the Czech one of a similar name. I know, I was just as surprised!
