NYC Beer Event: Hop Devil’s “Americanized” IPA Week
7 Comments Published by Joel October 4th, 2007 in Beer. Share ThisStarting tonight, Hop Devil Grill in Manhattan’s Lower Easy Side will have the following beers on tap for a week. I won’t be there tonight, but as I’m a bit of a fiend for hops myself—and I like Hop Devil’s selection already—I’m definitely going to check it out:
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
Smuttynose Big A IPA
Captain Lawrence Reserve Double IPA
Fishermans IPA
Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA
Sly Fox IPA Project
Lagunitas IPA
Legacy Hoptimus Prime
Houblon Chouffe
Southern Tier IPA
Keegan’s Hurricane Kitty
Great Divide Titan
Weyerbacher Simcoe Double IPA
Avery Majarajah
Rogue John’s Locker Box Series
Victory HopDevil IPA
While we’re talking hops, don’t forget about the Wet-Hopped Beer Festival in Pittsburgh on October 11 at Kelly’s in East Liberty.

I’m up in the Greater Toronto Region, but if I was in the NYC area, I’d want to have a Dethroner meetup sometime there this week.
Anyhow, looks like a damn fine lineup. Looking it over, I’m starting to lust for an IPA…
also while on the subject of hops – as a homebrewer who moved back from seattle to NH, it’s astounding how many hop varieties or forms are NOT available in homebrew stores here. we got so spoiled living that close to yakima! (my kingdom for a pound of whole-leaf amarillo right now) oh well, mail order it is.
anyway – i know it’s a macro-micro, but i’ve recently had Sam Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner. they weren’t kidding – it is quite hoppy. given who produced it, i’m astounded they let it out the door.
it’s no huge-hop imperial IPA by any stretch, but it’s very pleasant to drink and possibly a good gateway drug to bring more people over to the dark side (well, the bitter side, anyhow).
@MR,
Thanks for that post! I leave Pittsburgh at 05:00 on the 12th, and now I have a cool way to spend my last night in town for a long time. I LOVE the hops! Seriously – thanks!

Would love to experience this… not much Pacific Northwest representation in that list, sadly. The Bear Republic Racer 5 is pretty good.
I love the Dogfishhead 90 minute IPA, and have been tempted by the 11 dollar 12oz 120 minute. Anyone tried it?
Scott: I drink 120 minute just every so often. It’s basically a barleywine, though, so it’s more of a sipper than a session chugger. (I even think 90 minute is too much for that most of the time.) But it’s definitely recommended. If you like 90 Minute, it’s like that, but more.
