Definitely! It *is* ridiculous that you are an “adult” at 18, yet not really until 21. Or 25 (renting a car, anyone?). As for MADD, the problem isn’t with the age - is anyone really that much more responsible at 21 than at 18? The problem is with drinking culture in general. Same thing with pot. Take away the taboo, and the abuse will be gone, too.
Sex, drugs, and booze…sometimes this country can really be bass-ackwards.
Drinking-and-driving is a symptom of our city design, not a national moral weakness. I pretty much never drink and drive, even a little, because I have the luxury not to do so, by dint of living in Brooklyn. But I feel for most of y’all poor fuckers who can only share a drink with your friends by driving to the “party spots” in your towns.
Bring back the corner bar!
The funny thing about drinking and driving…. when they upped the drinking age to 21, drinking and driving related deaths went UP drastically, not down. It just like how in NJ they put in place huge new rules to curb teen driving deaths by limiting how many teens where allowed in cars and when they could drive, only to have teen driving related deaths nearly double the following years as teens started hiding out in the trunks and under seats to not get caught, instead of sitting in their seats possibly with a seatbelt on.
I think Peter Griffin said it best: “What, they want me to take a bus??….You take a bus.”
