Randall the Enamel Animal: At-Tap Enhoppinating

Toolmonger discusses Dogfish Head’s “Randall the Enamel Animal,” a device that adds hops aroma to a beer right as it’s pulled:
Invented by Delaware “craft brewer” Dogfish Head, this tool – technically known as a “organoleptic hop transducer module” — connects to the keg and filters the beer through a half-pound of hops, intensely infusing the beer with hops flavor and aroma just before it’s dispensed. According to Dogfish, higher-alcohol beers work best since the alcohol dissolves more of the oils from the hops as the beer passes through the filter.

Huh. Gotta give them props, but it seems like a really gimmicky way to do it. That being said, they make some great beers, so I would give it a shot fo’sho’ (even though it looks to be pouring all foam).
I believe a device similar to this is how they create their 60/90/120 minute IPAs. The number of minutes denoting the length of time the beer spends in the hopping device.
The 60/90/120 minute refers to when the initial bittering hops are added during the boil.
I stand corrected!
not when they are added but for how long they are added, 60 minute has hops added continually for 60 minutes, 90 minute has hops added to the boil for 90 minutes and the 120 is just a gift from god.
was at an event of theirs last night, pints for 5$ and get a goblet for free, the black and blue is interesting almost lambic fruityness. the Peache is a great summer beer.
typically what they do is run a pitcher or so through and then let it sit till it calms down. really makes a noticable difference on the IPA and other hop bomb type beers. if you see it it’s worth trying. I know they’ve given em to a bunch of bars and some other breweries.
Cheers
Jesus Christ. Pale Ale hoppy bitterness is turning into a dick-waving competition along the lines of hot sauce and Scovilles. Who cares if it blows, we’re the most extreme! Fuck the taste, I’m more hardcore than you!
Normally Greg, I would agree with you. But they do make some quality beer.
