What is it about old men beating up young guys that is so charming? Violence, on the whole, is to be avoided at all costs, but when a senior citizen puts five in the kisser of some young punk, it loses all its frightening overtones.

Bill Barnes says he was scratching off a losing $2 lottery ticket inside a gas station when he felt a hand slip into his front-left pants pocket, where he had $300 in cash.

He immediately grabbed the person’s wrist with his left hand and started throwing punches with his right, landing six or seven blows before a store manager intervened.

I went to look up the famous Buzz Aldrin punch (thrown into the face of a man who called him a “coward and a liar” for faking the moon landing) and it ended up being the first item Google suggested in my Firefox search when typing in “Buzz Aldrin.” Dude walks on the moon, but his old man punch is going to end up being his legacy.

One could argue that our culture subconsciously feels guilty about how much it glorifies youth and beauty. When an old man (wisdom, experience, toughtness) beats up a young punk, we all get excited because we don’t feel so bad about ignoring our old people (they can take care of themselves).

Or it could be our vindicated response to the recent stories of young punks targeting the elderly in robbery attempts and carjackings. Take that, you thief!

I don’t know…I had a purse stolen and i jumped the guy who did it. It took 3 people to pull me off of him. When you’re in that situation you’d be surprised at what you’ll do.

yeah, I don’t mean to underestimate the appeal of some jerk getting his comeuppance.

This kid got what he deserved. The gall to say that to an American hero. Idiot.

BTW, can we talk about this:

“Violence, on the whole, is to be avoided at all costs…”

??? I assume you’re talking tongue in cheek, right?

    I hope he’s not.

I’m just saying, history has shown over and over again (from bullies to thugs to dictators) that some crazies can only be stopped by violent force. I’m not saying it should be the first option, rather it should be near the end of the list. But saying that it “is to be avoided at all costs” pretty much leaves one open to being run over by anyone who is willing to use violence without remorse. And there are plenty who will do (and have done) just that.

I’m glad, anyone who goes to pick pocket should have the holy hell beat out of them. honestly, if some one tries to take what I have worked hard for, they deserve and I should have the right to beat them in to the ground regardless of age.

Try to remember, it’s “Thou shall not murder;” it’s not “Thou shalt not kill.” Just WHO do these criminals, thieves and crap-bags think they are? And WHEN did it become unusual to defend one’s self and property? You’re all too young to know: you can thank Earl Warren, Supreme Court Justice. Also, buy a gun.
