Rock Band Stratocaster Revealed!

rock_bandstrat.jpg

Love me, love my rhythm-based videogame addiction. While the Guitar Hero series will hold many greater memories for me—raising money for Child’s Play via Fünde Razor; playing a round on Expert in front of a live crowd; hearing my 8-year-old brother sing the opening lick to “Ironman”—I’ve put the game behind me, as the brand was taken away from original developer Harmonix. That’s not a bad thing at all, though, as Harmonix (now owned by MTV) has been given free reign to update the Guitar Hero formula with Rock Band. You can’t tell it from just this picture, which is the first shot of the new Stratocaster controller that will be used in the game, but there will also be bass guitars, microphones (for singing and the all-important tambourine), and a drum bad. Plus you’ll be able to play the whole thing online.

We haven’t started planning for this year’s Fünde Razor, but I can pretty much guarantee we’ll be playing Rock Band at the event.

P.S. Ben Kuchera is doing a really good job over at Ars’ “Opposable Thumbs” blog. Keep it up!

Hot coffee. That there is enough for me to finally plunk down the cash for a new system when the time comes.

(And, it does indeed have ten buttons — the lower ones are for use during some sort of “special solo sections”…)

    Can’t wait for Fünde Razor!

This is epic news! I can’t wait for this game to come out. My only question is they’ve said in the past that the current Guitar Hero controller would be compatible. But with the addition of these new buttons, I don’t see how. Anyways, I was so excited about this news that I wrote a post about it on my own blog. Check it out if you get a chance. Thanks!
