the books and the movie franchise have very little to do with each other this movie brought it back and left all the campy shit behind I’ve got a lot more hope for future movies.

the batman analogy was spot on. and really looking forward to the Dark night movie. granted i’d get see it regardless it is batman after all

You know my dad has this great joke about Bond. Basically it goes like this,

“They could film every single original Bond book that was made, give them a new name, and no one out there would be the wiser.”

If you think about it, its very true. SPECTOR lasted how many movies? Yet book wise the organization was destroyed by the end of Thunderball. Or how about Moonraker, with its shuttle and space station and stuff. Moonraker the book was about ballistic missiles. Hell they couldnt even hold on to the fact that Pussy Galor’s name was a joke on the fact that she was a lesbian, and the leader of a gang OF LESBIANS!

he was and casino royale were by far the greatest bond movies to me. it reminds me alot of batman begins, the old ones were ridiculous and we loved them for that, but the new ones seem so real and so well done.

i hope they redo a lot of the old films in this manor.

The story was actually the closest a Bond movie has been to the actual book it was based on. Very for of the movies even come close to the stories of their respective books other than to maybe have the same characters.

Just read “Ian Fleming and James Bond: The Cultural Politics of 007″ (by Edward, Watt, Willman, and Lycett, 2005, Indiana UP) Some good (if highly academic) chapters like “Lesbian Bondage, or Why Dykes Like 007″, “007 and 9/11, Specters and Structures of Feeling” and my favorite “‘Alimentary, Dr. Leiter”: Anal Anxiety in Diamonds Are Forever”. Interesting, if you like the whole Bond as cultural/sociological/historical icon interpretation.

I need to get out more.

Vaguely related - I finally watched the new Casino Royale the other night. What a steaming turd! The first 20 minutes were pretty good, and then it turns into some bizarre vaguely action-related Lifetime movie of the week. What the FUCK??? I had such high hopes when I saw their title sequence. At least they still drugged him. but good god. I have no patience for some simpering “sensitive” maybe-i-should-give-up-the-spy-game-for-the-girl James Bond bullshit. At least he gets naked.
