I’ve had Poop Report in my RSS reader for several months now and while I can’t say I check the site every time I open it up—there are times when I don’t want to read about shit, believe it or not—I get a small tingle just knowing it’s there. A collection of user-submitted stories, “Pooetry,” and how-to guides, Poop Report definitely lives up to its slogan: “Your #1 Source for your #2 Business.”
Site operator Dave Praeger has a new book out, too, if the website just won’t suffice. “Poop Culture: How America Is Shaped by Its Grossest National Product” addresses the ins and outs of shitting, how it has affected our culture, and addresses (by dint of its publication alone) how reticent we are to discuss something that every single person on the planet does. It’s an odd world when topics like bukakke can be used as friendly punchlines in mixed company, but referencing a husky corn dump can still net you only dark looks and a lonely party experience. Dave actually sent me the galleys to read before they went to print, but I waited to read it until I can get a copy in paperback, suitable for bathroom reading.

I saw that book at B&N the other day! I read a little bit — I can’t believe how fascinating it was. poop
