Joel hit the nail right on the head. In NYC, and other major cities, there’s this horrible trend in streetwear that features multi-colored all-over-print designs to the point of super saturation.

The kids rocking the all-over-print hoodies, that match with the all-over-print New Era hat, that matches their all-over-print t-shirts, not to mention their all over fucking boxers, and with all this coloring getting thrown around, you have to literally anchor the shit with the equally ridiculously colored kicks above. With that said, let it be known, that I’ve pretty much been a Nike whore all my life (or ever since BDP), and have never bought even a normal colored pair of New Balances either.

I wear sneakers all the time. But it is pretty okay to do that in NYC. As is wearing loud shoes. It’s almost a requirement.

I think they’re trying too hard, personally. I really don’t get the whole sneakers-as-high-fashion thing. Do people really have that many occasions to wear sneakers in public who aren’t in high school? Does anyone have jobs anymore? I know around here, most clubs don’t allow “athletic attire” including sneaks. Do not get it.

Well, at first, there were the guys selling the colored shape baseball caps outside of David Z on broadway and I was like “this can’t really be popular. They’re like a jo-ann fabrics store vomited on a hat.” But now I’m totally feeling it. The secret is not to look at a single article of crazy colored clothes and instead ride the subway and check out the colors. I saw the most thugged out kid rocking a pink unicorn and rainbow hoodie. After a decade of pre-millenial (and post-) future blacks and matrix crap and retro upon retro craze, it is is a relief to live in a moment where we can just enjoy something new. Not to be totally ignorant, but is this what Japan is like?
