Cornball? Sure. But these “Tire Rings” from Brian Bergeron Design aren’t any goofier than your average “Celtic” knotwork and have a certain appeal to racers, bike riders, and hard-core tricyclists.
They start at around $100 for silver, but you can move up to more precious metals should you so desire. Does anybody really fetishize the wet-weather tires, though, even if they do look cool?

Well, my wedding ring looks like the planetary gear from a transmission, so this might work well on the right hand.
As a somewhat-collector, I have somewhere around 12+ rings I have acquired over the last couple of years. I wear them in rotation, never more than 4 (including the requisite wedding ring). Some go with particular outfits, some I just like.
I have to say, having been through every jewelry store in my city (small city) Its refreshing to see some original ideas in mens rings. Every chain store carries exactly the same stuff as every other chain store. The only original stuff is the one-off originals from a local designer (not cheap) and sadly, in the $10 kiosks in the shopping mall aisles. Celtic knotwork is everywhere, and on everyone, so thats a no-go for me.
Sre there is a kitchy quality about them, but at least its different! Now I wonder if I can find a mountain bike tire inspired one…

You know, in normal context – just one, on one hand – I don’t think it would be all that kitschy. A couple of those are really lovely if you can look at them abstractly rather than just thinking “tire.”
To be honest, I don’t think most people would immediately jump to “tire” when looking at the design. The car ones probably have the easiest to recognize design, but overall, most are just going to see funky rings.

How about one for the die hard drag race fans, with really big slicks? This would either be a really easy design, or really hard to do if you wanted to show the tire under load.
Or the home improvement crowd who supe (sp?) up their wheelbarrows and lawnmowers with bigger tires?
Or for the wheelchair athletes, racing wheel chair tires?
Or the little tires that go on go carts for those who’ve never outgrown them?
Maybe a series of rings for cross-country and offroad motorcyclists?
And a big gold one with lots of bling for those who drive the new Hummers?
Or one with optional wheel covers for the Chrysler and Cadillac set?
Or how about the continental tire mounting kit, so that when you’re not wearing the ring you can mount it on the back of your trunk?
And for the bubbas in the crowd, the old, bald, worn tread, tire threads showing through, spare off a ‘68 Impala?
OK, I’ll stop now…
I bought a set of these for my boyfriend and I as sort of a promise ring. We are both hugely in riding sport bikes together so we wore these rings on our wedding fingers as a promise to be together forever now one year later he proposed and replaced mine with an engangement ring and I placed the promise ring on my right ring finger where I once wore my class ring only. These rings were a great symbol of our love towards not only ourselves but our passion for sportbikes as well.
