Chip S. asks:
I would very much like to hear your thoughts on the idea of men wearing skirts designed for men. Beyond the mere idea, what about actual implementations of instances of men’s skirts, i.e., www.midasclothing.com.I have 2 of these midas skirts and they get quite a lot of use, but not much in the way of comments. Do people not notice? Not care? Or is the discontinuity so great as to leave them with no comment?
Well, Chip, in New York we tend to have more fashion-forward people than in most other places, so if such a trend were to get lift-off it would probably start here first. I’ve been seeing dudes in skirts every now an again for years. I must say that most often it’s an emo/goth kid working that look. The overall effect, though perfectly acceptable and slick within its own milieu, is kind of designed and directed to distance the wearer and his enclave from the rest of society—not merge with it or ask to be embraced. Society tends to respond accordingly; we don’t confront or challenge these individuals, we write them off a weirdos, we ignore them.
However, the gear presented by Midas Clothing, as well as that by Utilikilts, the better-known design house based out of Seattle, seems to be trying to integrate itself into society rather than clash with it. It’s a noble effort, and honestly not that outlandish. Hell, men have been wearing some form of dress or skirt for thousands of years; it’s only been in the last couple of hundred that the institution has fallen out of favor in western civ. Bringing it back is a challenge, but these companies are fighting the good fight.
We do see men in utilikilts with increasing regularity, and again, it’s within the relative fringe of society, but the men wearing these jobs are less thumbing their nose at society and more thumbing their nose at convention, which I personally like to get behind. Utilikilt wearers seem to come from all walks of life and are the least likely candidates to worry about being mistaken for gay because, honestly, it takes some pretty serious confidence in one’s masculinity to pull this garment off correctly. And when they do, it’s pretty cool, and perhaps the single greatest hope that the notion may find a toehold of acceptance by modern civilization.
Like most radical changes in modern dress, it will take a well-known, respected figure to push this thing over the hump. Top hats died a noble death when JFK attended his inauguration with a bare head and remained classy.
The funny thing about kilts is that within the elite class, formal events allow the traditional kilt to be worn with effortless grace by those of Scottish descent. Beneath that there is an enormous gap before it’s acceptable again, and then it finds itself reappearing within the likes of RPG players, members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, heavy metal band members, computer jocks who can get away with anything they want, and the occasional biker at a street fair. Usually what we have is a fellow whose machismo is so unquestionable that he can rock the kilt without inviting the cocked eyebrow, but at the heart it’s a guy who simply doesn’t give a fuck what anyone thinks, and does what he does cos he likes it that way.
I think we’re a long way off from the average Joe Blow wearing a comfortable men’s skirt while washing his car in the driveway on a Saturday morning. But I also have to admit, having work a skirt a few times myself, it’s a comfortable way to go. Very liberating, especially if you’re regimental.

I personally find men in kilts extremely hot. Maybe its from reading so many novels involving Scotland and Ireland. I am not sure, I just know I find it real fucking hot.
honestly, i just wouldn’t want to have to worry about crossing my legs all the time…
as a designer, i find these things overly reactionary in execution, so i don’t really like them too much. it’s pretty clear in all the execution that the first thing you’re supposed to think is “not feminine.” which is too bad, because it means we’ll be seeing these suckers in black, brown, denim, varieties of camo, and maybe safety orange. and, more than likely cotton canvas.
there was some designer in the mid-eighties that did a really nice long mens’ businesswear dress-like thing. it was a narrow shape that covered the entire body. the top had a lapel-like fold, so you could pair it with shirt and tie pretty easily. i cannot for the life of me remember who made it. i kinda remember it being a re-think of suiting, with overcoat shapes and leggings as well.
I wear my kilt proudly every chance i get. and having seen similar fashion items available in kilt shops back home i have to say they are cool. they achieve the same effect as a nice pair of suit pants (if you buy a nice one) but a have a bohemian flavour.
ironically they make you feel incredibly manly.
isobel: id wear my kilt any time for you baby ;)
I’ve always thought that the idea that men shouldn’t wear skirts/dresses is every bit as absurd as the old notion that women shouldn’t wear pants. It’s just stupid. I think that a fitted mens’ suit is about the hottest outfit ever for a woman, so I don’t see why an equally hot dress couldn’t be made for a dude.
I’m not sure I’d go with a skirt but the kilt I am more than on board with. It’s just a garment, you don’t have to be any particular ethnicity to wear them. One of the boards I hang out on, there’s an Asian man who loves wearing his kilt and has hiked the Appalacian trail in it. It’s just a mentality that you can only wear a kilt if you are X and it can only be worn in Y setting. Fuck all that, if you want to do it, do it.
For me, a kilt is just a comfortable year round garment. I’ve done the Trolley run twice in a kilt, danced the night away at various bars, mowed the lawn in it, had a nice supper in it and pretty much done everything you’d do in either dressed up or dressed down.
Adam, a well cut kilt will lightly touch the ground if you are kneeling so you are less likely to show your junk off unless you are intending to. Well, that and drunken women who just grab a hold of your kilt and pick it up to look but that’s a different story. The skirts look far shorter and so I think you’re far likely to have exposure, intentional or not.
tec: a campari advert perfectly sums up what your saying:

i was ver,y very fooled
utilikilts are the dogs balls. these, not so much.
Nope. Ain’t doing it. No kilts, skirts, dresses, or other open bottom clothing for me.
Sure, it might be more comfortable for my boys, but they are going to have to suffer like their forefathers.
Sure, it may be only a recent development over the last couple hundred years; I don’t care… I ain’t doing it.
I’m a man and wear skirts quite a bit - mostly because I am fed up of the very restricted fashions that are available for men - compared to that for women. Men used to dress in a bright, vibrant manner a couple of hundred years ago - and then trousers were invented . . .
I don’t wear kilts because a) decent ones are expensive and b) I find them a bit dull. But I will get one or two when I have the money. I make do with buying skirts that were made for women. Getting a decent fit is a problem - but I’m learning what works and what doesn’t. I mostly get a positive response from people that I meet.
This is me in a little pink number . . .

I hope more and more men get into wearing skirts and kilts. The more choice we have in fashion for men the better, as far as I am concerned.
I think a big part of the problem is terminology. If you call them kilts, they’re OK. Call them skirts and people think “crossdresser” or whatever.
I’ve wanted a kilt for a long time. I find pants/shorts very uncomfortable and restrictive. I’m also of Scottish heritage, which is part of my desire - but not all of us. Pants ride up and cause discomfort in sensitive areas, or your zipper falls open, or the pant legs get dirty if it’s muddy, etc. Sadly, every kilt I’ve ever seen has been way too expensive for me - esp. because my clan is one of the smaller ones.
I’m glad that yinz posted those websites. I’m bookmarking them.
I’ve been seeing these [utilikilts] pop up more and more on job sites. I know a few carpenters that wear them, all manly types with good legs. Thankfully they are long enough so the leg crossing thing isn’t an issue and I have no idea if any of them go regimental. Since I’m sure they would show me, I won’t be asking.
Yinz! You said Yinz!
Why, you must be from Pittsburgh, Spekkio. Love it.
For those who were wondering, read this.
If you have a problem with “skirts” but not “kilts” why not try “mug”s..a mug is a Male Unbifurcated Garment. Unbifurcated means one hole for 2 legs instead of “bifurcated” which means 2 holes for 2 legs. I just can’t understand why people in the “west” can’t wrap their minds around something that’s been commonplace in the “east” for centuries. Pacific rim countries, like most of the Pacific Islands, have some sort of unbifurcated garment that is a normal men’s clothing choice depending on what the wearer is doing. The Lavalava, Sarong, Sulu, or Bhutanese mandatory clothing for Bhutanese males are all skirt like garments. The garments Arabic men wear are mostly skirted (even tho they are usually over pants), same with most tribes in Africa. These people wear skirted garments because they are more useful and comfortable, not to make a fashion statement. Jesus wore a skirted garment and I really don’t think anyone considered him to be effeminate or anything but a masculine man.
PLEASE folks, fashions change, it’s a good thing. If they didn’t, we’d all still be wearing animal skins. :)
I wear a kilt and love it, but I would love to wear a skirt all the time but too worried that I would get the pi$$ taken out of me and called a cross dresser, so I will keep my skirts for the house and garden
I am a guy that enjoys wearing skirts,(plaid kilt type & denim)They are much more comfortable, and cooler in the hot weather, than my favorite blue jeans. (and besides, did I mention fun!) I find that they seem to be accepted by the women, and have even had lots of smiles, several compliments, and a very few negative remarks. the women seem to be much friendlier, and more apt to start up a conversation with me, than ever dressed in traditional male clothing. If you are even considering optional clothing, try a short knee length denim skirt, as they seem to be invisible, and go unnoticed. I do seem to get more attention when wearing kilt type skirts, then the denim. I think that the more common that men are seen in skirts, the quicker it will be accepted. Try it, you might like it!
I love wearing a skirt when I go out, usuallu an ankle length denim skirt, with hose and 2 or 3in heels. doesent bother anyone and I get a great buzz from it.
Skirts for men? Why not??
I have been wearing kilts, sarongs and other men’s skirts for over 5 years and wish I’d done it so much earlier. If ever there was a garment designed for the male anatomy, its the skirt. Skirts are just so comfortable.
Women have all but abandoned the skirt in favor of pants so the idea that skirt = female is dead. As someone said “If I want to dress like a girl then I’ll wear bluejeans”
Reactions? People just love to see me in a kilt. Most times me wearing a skirt is a non event. I’m accepted as an average Joe. The only time I have had bad comment is from the knuckle dragging bozos who don’t have an ounce of individuality, who think its cute to badmouth anyone who is different. Well, f*** them and the horse they rode in on. Evolution will take care of them!!
Get a skirt - wear it - enjoy - be free

I think it’s very interesting that this article has prompted more feedback than any recent article I can find on dethroner.com. I love wearing kilts and skirts and sarongs. The comfort is undeniable, the fashion statement is stronger than anything from the men’s department — and the ladies just love it!
I, being a non-Scott and living in a country without any kilt tradition have for several years by now and rather frequently been wearing kilts as casual wear, i.e. mainly to replace shorts or jeans, whereas I couldn’t see myself wearing a kilt neither to job nor at any formal occasions.
I like the feeling, the look and the variety the kilt provides but also the fact that it is different.
The reactions from other people are over all good. Recently I have realized that when in a kilt more people are addressing me than when in trousers. They very seldom talk or ask about my kilt wearing, just having friendly remarks about the weather etc. Also when shopping in a kilt I think that I am better than normal treated by the sales people. Negative comments, giggling or talking behind my back are practically non-existent. To surroundings I might just a “normal” man dressing differently. Even my dear wife is not far from admitting that there is very little to worry about because of a different piece of cloth.
I don’t see anything wrong for a man wearing a kilt. Even though. I don’t wear a kilt at all. I never made front of the Irish men or the Scottish men. I don’t call them names and I don’t bother asking them what’s under the kilt? To be frankly, I will be ashamed to think of it or afraid to say it. It will be disrespectful to those men that wear kilts in public or anywhere else. I am Black, Indian and Irish. Myself. In the past, I watch the highland games on cable and the St.Patrick Parade on regular television. Later on, I asked my grandmother her family background. She told me” We have Irish in our family” As a child I was always drawn to Irish culture, but I couldn’t understand why? Sometimes, I wonder what’s its like having a friend who wears a kilt or hanging out with him getting the pretty ladies.
Kilts are way Kool. Most comfortable attire, permitting the male fleshy masses freedom without restraint of pesky seams.
Mature kilt wearers don\’t care what others think anymore. Young kilt wearers like the rebellious aspect of radical fashion. Once you allow yourself to try one you will discover the comfort. The trend will continue to swell as guys decide not to let others tell them they must conform.
I am completely aware what is right about kilts, and what the societal advantages are. The cultural aura around kilts shields the wearer from accusations of “cross-dressing.”
That being acknowledged, let’s consider what is WRONG with kilts!
First, the denial that a kilt is a skirt—is disgustingly wrong. It’s like saying, “I don’t drive an automobile, I drive a motor vehicle!”
Second, the idea that if a man wants to wear a skirt, it HAS to be a kilt! That’s no differenct in essence than saying, if a man wants to engage in foreign travel, Scotland or Ireland are the ONLY acceptable destinations!
As for culture, what of us who are not of Scottish, Irish, or Celtic ancestry? Must we be drafted into their culture just so we can wear something different from trousers?
What is there in United States laws that gives Scottish males the right to wear a skirt (kilt) in public, without transgressing the “cross-dressing” doctrine, yet other men are assumed to have no such right?
Another thing wrong with kilts—again, the view that if a man wants to wear a skirt, it HAS to be a kilt! Yet, are women being told there is ONLY ONE trouser variety they are allowed to wear? Kilts voluntarily—hooray; but coercively—absolutely no!
Kilts are easily the most recognized skirt on men. But to make ANY ATTEMPT to restrict men’s skirt choices to kilts, or kilt knock-offs (modern stylized versions) is a continued attempt to restrict men’s choices. It is as if, the enemy lines were pushed back significantly, but the war is NEVER WON!
For this reason the ethnic skirt of my choice is the Albanian-Greek fustanella, and I do mean like a petticoat. It is MORE POWERFUL than a (excuse me, than “THE”) kilt because it is more startling in appearance. Yet, when worn with a Greek T-shirt, it carries the statement that this too is an ethnic garment, so the critic should beware of committing cultural genocide by slandering it as “cross-dressing!”
Then there are the very attractive skirts I own which were designed with only females in mind. I say, females can have the trousers if they really wish to lose elegance (and of course the bras, since those are unique to their anatomy.)
Check out AmeriKilts. Kind of like the Utilikilts but cheaper and just as cool looking.
I am a straight guy that loves to wear skirts. I like skirts more than pants, and fine what ever kind of skirt, with hose, to be many time more comfortable than pants any time.
I wear what are concidered women’s skirts (much like women wear men’s jeans from time to time, along with men’s slacks, shirts, ties, yada yada yada.
I hate being called a cross dresser, when a woman in pants is not labeled such. I really don’t like being called gay, when I am not, but people seem to think I am cause I am showing off my legs under a tight, short skirt.
I think people have just gotta go out there and try something different, I did, and liked it.
I don’t like kilts, or utilikilts because they are really limited in style. A kilt is very utilitarian and bulky (I am talking the true great kilt), the utilikilt just looks like a pair of baggy shorts with the center cut out, plus they are overly expensive. Also, I see no reason why the skirts I wear are concidered feminine. They are styles mostly worn by women, but honestly they have no feminine qualities to them. They are quite plain, no patterns, no lace, and most are black (some shiny), I own one grey skirt.
I would love to have the actual choice of pants, or skirt and hose (I always wear hose with my skirts, cause I think skirts without hose look incomplete, just my personal view). I just think it is about time for this to be a viable choice for “manly” men. What ever that means
I have spent a lot of time with the Masai in Tanzania. All Masai wear skirts of some discription, and nobody ever takes any notice of that, it’s just normal attire. In fact if I had worn troucers with them I would be the odd one out. I guess most of us don’t want to stand out, we want to follow the croud, and in Western society if a man wears a skirt he stands out.
Why are kilts for men so expensive? A womans tartan skirt costs around £20, a man’s kilt £200 - why? It’s the same material, it’s almost identically sized. In fact there is hardly any difference. For this reason I started wearing womans tartan skirts … cost problem solved.
The general consensus here seems to be for men wearing MUG’s, so I’m wondering why aren’t we doing it more. I wish I had the nerve to go as far as kilt wearing, as I’m sure the nauseating ache I get “down below” would disappear if I did. Don’t think wearing clothes designed for women is the way to go for the average Joe, as I think we’re aiming at comfort here, although go for it if you want to.
As someone who wears a kilt all the time, I can only describe the feeling of freedom as being “delicious”. I can think of no other definition, sounds daft I know, but!!
I live in France and started wearing a kilt all the time, or a skirt around the house over a year ago. Mens underwear per se I have found wears poorly read that as uncomfortably, however, I have now discovered net incontinence pants,(not that they are there for that purpose) that are what they say net, they are lovely and comfortable, and surprisingly, I suppose, warm. And primarily do not chafe.
My problems though with wearing a kilt have been 1/ modesty (I know what women say about “feeling vulnerable” however wear a kilt, well accept that..)
and 2/ warmth and wind, ( It can get very chilly on the cheeks on a windy winters day!!)
lastly3/ Hygeine (body oils etc on the kilts)
Both of these problems I feel may now have been addressed (clothing pun intended “a dressed”, get it.) I have made a wrap but sewn in of light cotton fabric as an underskirt. Basically a piece of cotton about 5′ long and 22″ wide wrapped around sewn with an apron across the front and elasticated waist, actually recovered from old dicarded underwear.
Its extremely comfortable, and solves most of the above and allows longer usage of the kilt before washing.
If you are reading this, you have either, thought about it, or are uncomfortable in pants.
Want an incentive? I am in my 60’s, after wearing MUG’s for 3-4 weeks, I stopped getting up in the night to pee, I now wake up in the morning with what I had in my 20’s, frequently get stopped and spoken to by females, and surprisingly enough not just to talk about kilts.
Like all clothing the more they are bought then the price will fall.
Wearing and making skirts for many years has given me great confidence. Men wearing skirts drives everyone nuts. A true sensual delight. Most men are sensual cowards. “If it feels good, it must be for girls”. Men deny pleasure as women deny sex. Never in a mens locker room will you hear “Bill, you’ve just got try these great briefs. They feel soooo good”. By the way, if you’ve ever worn a towl from the shower to the locker, you are a skirter. Live with it.
Love and Light from Orlando.

I am new to wearing skirts, I have been wearing skirts around the house and
out in the yard sometimes, I find that skirts are more comfortable than shorts.
but the problem is I am getting to like wearing skirts and pantyhose more than
wearing shorts which is not normal. I think that I look better in skirts than shorts, sometimes I forget that I am wearing a skirt and answer the door.
The another day UPS came late around 630 pm. I was fixing dinner and figure
that UPS would not show up because of the storm, all of sudden UPS shows up.
taking me off my guard, I went to the door he was by the gate so I told him
that I will open the garage for him ,and to put the package in the garage.
I open the garage and he left the package at the gate and took off, This made
me really mad then it started raining. So here I am dressed in a mini skirt and pantyhose and I have two packages starting to get wet, I was going to change
in to my shorts, but for some reason I didn’t, so I just took the hand truck
and went out to get the packages. my neighbors were sitting in there kitchen
and they saw me wearing a skirt. I don’t no my neighbors they work during the
day, I wonder what they were thinking, if I was playing with a full deck.
sometimes I don’t care what other people think and wear what I like. The problem
is I am new to the neighborhood only been here a little over a year. I wish
that men could have fashion freedom like women to wear what they like and be
excepted by the public. I would like to hear your views on this.

I enjoy the comments especially those of men who wear either a kilt or male type skirt. I’ve been wearing a kilt for ’bout 17 years and to this day, people especially women love it. there seem to be a bright sparkle in their eyes when seeing a guy in a kilt or male type skirt.
The male in North America was wearing skirt or dress type clothing up to the early 20th century. These were little boys and they looked striking. Pants has been somwhat of a new idea in Western culture-about 300 years. this means that men wore skirted garments prior to that perild.
Just look at at least a third of the world today and one will see men in some type of skirts;so, let’s face it , it’s time for men in America and throughout the Western Culture to not only start wearing kilts and skirts but take back what was ours in the first place.
This stupid, silly , foolish and indeed nonsense that women can wear anything they wish at anytime be it dresses, skirts or PANTS and nobody thinks a thing of it,yet, when the poor male even wishes to even think of wearing a skirt, the entire world blows up and the end of the existence of us all is about to break upon the earth. bull and double bull. gentlemen: start wearing kilts and progress to male skirts and wear them everyday. Yes: Everyday. You have the moral right . These garments are wonderful, comfortable and are naturally made for us. It is women who should be in pants not men. Think of how we are constructed.
I have now experienced how a woman can react. Prior top getting married and thereafter my wife indicated that she would appreciate it if I would wear something which would make it easy for her to get hold of my genetals, preferably in patent leather. I asked her what, e.g her patent leather miniskirt? no yes no no. in the run of the years she indicated that a kilt might be interesting and she would look into it. In the mean time as result of her remarks I started to experiemnt, also to get used to the idea and as I have been a bit of a photographer in the past, I took pictures. As I was interested also in boots and found leather skirts rather good looking, it became a real item with me. My wife found out that I had investiged her suggestion further and eventhough she found it a very interesting situation (she have never encountered her so horny) she now intends to devorce me therefor. Maybe I should say, as she is a control freak, due to the fact that I did something which was outside her span of control. Life is a bitch and can be sucks
I couldn’t agree more with the reasons you forward for wearing kilts.
As a guy who wears docker-style trousers on a daily basis for the job, I can’t wait to get home and put on my kilt. The difference in comfort and feel is amazing. I wish that I had discovered kilts and skirts long before I did.
Recently on a lazy Saturday, I had an errand to run for my wife. My kilt had some spots on it and was not presentable to wear; so I put on a pair of “relaxed fit” jeans. Jumped in the car to run the errand and immediately felt this crush to my manhood. I looked down and saw the problem immediately-it’s those damn jeans cuttin’ into my unit! Now I know (once again) the large difference in comfort a kilt offers versus pants. Henceforth, I’ll do my utmost to keep my jeans wearing to a minimum, especially if sitting in the car for any period of time is involved! Why should comfort be reserved only for the fairer sex?
I usual wearing female-style mini skirt cos of size — I wear black opaque tights, cord mini skirt and any top to match and black suede calf boots that look really nice and very comfortable - it dont matter which one you buy female ot male type of skirts, just buy and wear it - dump boring trousers and keep weaing skirt.. trousers are too boring, too plain and uncomfortable plus problems if weight loss with small size like myself that how I cant find men size trousers so I bought female size clothes that prefect fit. it time to change for men fashion from now on not few years — we need to keep wear that would change pretty quickly.. I know most men still to afraid but take it time that it will happen very soon — I keep wear skirt so that push men to change into all type of fashion.
I wear male-style skirts made for female! I have to wear anyway always support stockings in 2 ’super’-colors, friendly black and nude. It is almost impossible to wear it under pants and I enjoy wearing comfortable skirts with it; I don’t care what others might think about me. Iagree with lucky09: Nothing else can be more boring as pants.
Yes, we need to change men’s fashion from now on, and I am looking for an organization/group who can make in public - or make in public through an action like the recent “wthout pants”. Who has an idea?
First Kilts ARE Skirts by DEFINITION so get over the need to call it something else! Did women call men’s pants something else when they adopted them not long ago? No. Men wore Skirts for more than a thousand years! it is only recently due to the Industrial Revolution and Horse riding that pants were seen as more practical and those days are over! Soooo… why not skirts for men? Most likely men generally suffer from Homophobia… not sure of their own sexual orientation and are afraid as being seen as weaker. Sad! Once a guy (who is man enough) tries on a skirt he will see how stupid the issue is. A skirt is way more comfortable than pants or shorts as there is no restrictive binding when walking and sitting! A real feeling of freedom for the first time wearer…
I suggest for this coming summer actually try on a Cargo Mini Skirt!!! They are usually plain and have many pockets, belt loops, and look great on a guy or girl. Just get one in the Junior sizes so the hips aren’t too big and one that doesn’t flair out much. A mini can be a alternative to shorts and are the same length as many men’s shorts! (Try eBay search and be amazed by huge selection available. Men normally don’t have such options but those with an open mind do).
Women need to be understanding and realize a skirt for a man is more practical than for a woman for obvious reasons! A non selfish woman needs to encourage their guy to at least try one! Most chicks think a guy in a skirt looks hot. They are perfect for sitting at the computer for long periods of time and at the beach, etc. Cooler in summer for sure. (noticeably).
Make skirts an option to the boring boring men’s wardrobe for 2008!!! It’s time to make some changes… Be a real man!
Wow! I am glad to see that there are so many replys on this skirts for men subject, and still going on over a year. For a long time I thought I was alone on my desire to wear skirts and clothing from the other side of the aisle. The comfort of skirts are one of the best kept secrets from us guys, buy the ladies. I am looking forward to wearing them more this summer, I agree with patagonia kid about the cargo style. They seem to be more unisex, and usually draw less attenion. I have a couple of cargo denim skirts, and a couple of short denim cargo skooter’s very short, but skirt goes all around the shorts, so they look like a mini skirt. so even with shorts underneath, they are very comfortable, and safe for beginners)(lol) I just purchased a khaki colored cargo skooter of that style, and received a compliment the first time i went out wearing it, by two older teenage girls maybe 18-19 that were behind me in line at Kohl’s. They were talking about my skirt, when the oldest one, said , excuse me, I like your skirt, (I thought they were just teasing me) so I told her it was really shorts. She said she knew that, and that she had a skirt just exactly like it, The younger one said it looked really good on me, and that her boyfriend wore one of her skirts, and crossdressed on halloween, and that she thought he looked really hot in a skirt, but she can’t talk him into dressing up again for her.The two of them made my day, and I will remember that everytime i wear that skirt. btw: Kohl’s junior size skirts, shorts, and jeans fit guys great!, and the sales girls are very helpful, and have told me that they get lots of guys in there buying jeans, and sometimes shorts, but I am the first one they have seen wearing, and buying there skirts, so just maybe if more would guys would get out there, it would be easier for all of us! peace out, jenisis
I’m a man and I love to wear skirts and dresses. I wore a skirt in public a couple of months ago and fell in love with it immediately. It was far more comfortable that anything I have ever worn. I have worn skirts several times since then. I have got a lot of compliments from women. I decided to go further than skirts, I have been out a couple of times in a dress. I have fallen in love with dresses. I’m going to buy me some more dresses and skirts and get a good collection of them. I know there are a lot of people don’t approve of what I’m doing, I have got a lot of stares and strange looks and I have heard people laughing behind my back, but I don’t pay them any attention. I don’t care what other people thinks. I’m not even close to being gay. I’m not trying to be a woman. When it comes to men’s clothes the only 3 things that are available are trousers, trousers, and trousers. Most of the shorts that are made for men are too long to be called shorts. It is extremely boring to have to wear the same thing day after day. That is something that could be changed but we men are the ones that will have to do it. Getting society to accept men wearing skirts and dresses is something that is not going to happen by itself, we have got to get out and make it happen. I have made the decision that I’m not going to wait for society to accept it. I would like to see other men do the same thing. I encourage other men that reads this to give skirts a try, you will love them.
Way to go Terry! If more guys would give skirts a try, I think they would be very suprised just how comfortable,(and did I mention fun!),they are to wear. And even more suprised how much the majority of women seem to approve. They are also a great icebreaker,I have had a lot more women begin conversations with me when wearing a skirt,or other alternative clothing, then I have ever noticed while dressed in everday male attire. It is really hard to believe the amount of positive compliments I receive from the women, and girls, on the skirts and even on my legs, boots, and shoes that I wear with the skirts, Women do notice how we are dressed, the few negative remarks are usually from young teenage girls when they are in a group. If more guys would try wearing skirts in the public, I think it would catch on very fast once the guys find out how much the chicks dig it! Clothing does not make or decide if people are gay, It’s what happens after the clothing is removed(lol) It takes Balls to go out wearing skirts! So go ahead and try it, you might like it! (Warning It Is Addicting) Peace to all, jenisis21 at yahoo
It’s about time America moved into the 21st century and brought about a revolution against the ignorance and bigotry of forcing men to wear pants. The rights and freedom of all people need to be recognized. Men in skirts needs to be the norm and I agree with everyone here who feels that skirts are both comfortable and logical. It doesn’t have to be falling back to the kilts of the past, but become more modern with the style and comfort. Colors make no difference. If women want to wear pants…..let em, and if men want to wear skirts….then I say, let em. Personally I find skirts to be the logical choice and prefer them over ball binding pants. Since when do women have rights that men don’t. Women began wearing pants and men have the same right to wear skirts without snickers from the idiots. There’s such a thing as thinking outside the box and that is the purpose of this forum. Who on God’s green earth made it a law requiring men to wear pants? I sure didn’t, and I’m willing to bet that any man in his right mind, given the choice without societal derogatory remarks, would choose a skirt over pants any day. Not only are they a more logical choice, but also provide the necessary ball room without the binding and chaffing. The real choice then is what to wear underneath. Simple. Whatever feels good. Without the zipper in front to force a man to wear male briefs, there are now a million other choices and it’s up to each man to choose for himself. Who cares what other people say or think. It’s only their own ignorance and foolishness that has kept men from wearing the clothing of their own choice. Men have allowed the world to dictate their lives and have given up their own freedom. It’s long been overdue to tell the fashion world and the rest of the world, that men have the right to wear skirts if they want to. The trouble is that men are p***y whipped and browbeaten into thinking that they have to follow the rules of a dictatorial society. Publish this on the Front Page of the New York Times if you have the balls. And for the fashion industry, it’s time you dumba**es stopped telling the world what to wear. Start providing skirts designed for men and get them out to the public in every store around the globe.
I’ve been wearing skirts & kilts, along with opaque stockings for the past 20+ years. Going public was another thing -> It happened by accident my wife purchased the clothes and suggested I wear them to a party we were having at home.
Yes it did cause a reaction to several guests (friends); I explained how it began years before when I had put-on one of my wifes skirts, which was an elastic waist, and really loved the comfort on a particularly hot summer day. I went to show it to her; she laughed, asked me to come & sit-down beside her……then reached & grabbed some highly sensitive private parts……and thus began a period where “passion” is an understatement. Our children were gorwn enough to be “bored” with their Dad’s being silly.
I’m working from home; my wife of 42 years died almost 5 years ago; as I write, I’m sitting at my desk wearing a pleated skirt & t-shirt with sandels; no feeling at all of it being abnormal. Living in a Condo, the few neighbors often see me & know me well enough to realize I do not care what they think. Yet, at a business appointment tomorrow, I’m certain I’ll wear slacks.
It will become popular someday! The first thing that will be needed is for some well-known fashion designed to create a series of skirt/kilt/sarong/evening wear/ even some cool dresses FOR MEN! Then, if they can get a TV or Film star to endorse, appearing where the Media can get involved, the suddenly we’ll see the new wardrobe option for men “take off”.
Me? I’m 62; I’m sort of set in my ways; I remain hesitant to dress the way I want in most public places……like I have not told a lady I’m dating about my wardrobe preferences yet but No, I’ll not ever give up this freedom I’ve enjoyed so many years. Do any of other men who read this “blog”, believe public attention will spur a named fashion designer somewhere? There are a few Web-sites where men, who have designed their own line of clothing, actually present quality (clearly manly fashion ideas). I’d love to see the idea take off, while I’m still in this life; it could happen quickly given te speed of how communications are spread across the globe each day. Good Luck to all of us!
Hi all;
Like to say just one thing: You’re right with your statments, I like to see more men thinking similar. Feeling when wearing a skirt is amazing about comfort. There is no other garment which can touch this feeling.
Why other men don’t try it? I believe they are not encouraged to do what they want to do. I don’t care what other’s think about, never I heard negative comments. I agree,I like to see the idea take off, too, while I am still in this life. Looking forward to see more skirted men soon.
I live in a 200-acre nudist cooperative and work from home, so 23 hours of the day I’m not wearing anything. Which makes me even more aware of the discomfort of wearing pants and shorts, especially when driving.
Three months ago I saw 12 guys wearing kilts at the Florida Regional Burn (associated with the Burning Man Festival in Nevada.) I bought a Sport Kilt, which I like because the long velcro closure is both secure and makes it easy to put on.
Female friends think it looks hot; women on the street have voiced a few positive comments; teens with droopy shorts riding over their underwear may snicker; most people don’t seem to notice. I haven’t worn shorts since I got the kilt, cause it’s so much more comfortable. I’ve since purchased 2 more kilts, one tartan and one camo.
Cost may be an issue for most guys, because even the “cheap” Sports Kilt is around $80. However, it is American-made so I feel better than when I bought my last pair of $25 shorts that were made in China.
I think I’ll reserve one dress suit with pants for weddings and funerals, and take the rest of my pants to the local Goodwill.
Great to see all the interest in skirts for men. Most look a bit short for my tast.I prefer my lava-lavas more ankle length. Would like to make a camo one as a shorter skirt i saw looked good. Jack.
im a 45 yo male in very good shape. I have the build of a swimmer/ runner, Im tall and on thin side even though I have good definition and developed torso and legs. My legs are also shaved all time as well. (6-5, 160). Ive had a skirt and underwear fetish for many years. Most of time I wear “modifyed” versions from old shorts that Ive worn over the years. “cut out the crotch and trimm the length” Which ends up around 12-14 inches long. I also have female denim mini skirts 12-13 in length or a size 3-4. Ive worn them at home and around the yard to which i live on a farely busy street. Ive driven around and gone to gas station wearing one (paying at pump) but not going into store or gas station. I use a 24 hour gym with cameras and worn the skirts or modifyed shorts to workout in. Of course I always wear bikini underwear under them all time since going commando would cause things to stick out the bottom. At gym when i go, im the only one there but you never know who will walk in since its avalible 24 hours. Of course while working out my underwear will be exposed, however that dosent bother me expecially when nobody else is there to see it anyhow. Im considered straight but like to be in my underwear and skirts. As far as the rest of me goes..I wear the normal male t shirt and running shoes or sneakers with male socks. my legs are bare with no hose or stockings. Im not trying to hide my male ego or try to look like a girl. Im currently alone and single. My e mail is : airchair@wildblue.net
Murray here. Yes very hard to get men out of their rut. I will be out in my lava-lavas more. Mostly at beach and cafes last summer. More “everyday” now methinks. Around here I wear nothing else. New Zealand seems to be very conservative in these things.Rugby shorts all year. Must be most uncomfortable. Murray.
Jack here. Yes I agree with Murray. Got to get more blokes into “unbifurcated”. I do give away lava-lavas to friends who can’t find them. Surprising how few shops have them in this “Polinesian world capital”(Auckland). But find a man’s skirt as such on sale? Laughed out of shop I would say! New Zealand has never been an ice-breaker in these things however. Over to another guy for comment. Jack.
Jack back: I must say what a bolster it is to discover the stirt-wearing guys.Just shows the goodness of the internet. Keep up the good work. Jack.
i am a guitarist who plays guitar and bass at the same time (17 years old) and needed a gimick to get peoples attention so started wearing really short mini-skirts and knne high and thigh high socks. its freakin awesome
How long does it take to get the comments out of moderation?,,,,Its been over 3 weeks now..GET ON THE BALL!!
I have been wearing kilt-style skirts (made for men) and sarongs for 14 years. I have had mostly positive reactions from people, have worn them on airplanes, at tourist areas, around my neighborhood, and just about anyplace where I didn’t have any doubts about my safety. They are so comfortable, and my attitude has always been that we can never change others; we can only change ourselves, and others can learn from our example if they want to. My wife would be happy if I didn’t wear skirts at all, but we work out our compromises, which is what marriage is about. All-in-all, I have had good experiences and would recommend skirt-wearing to anybody; it adds to your life!
I agree with all you who’ve stated your preference for skirts, I also wear skirts and dresses most of the time. But I wonder, with all the guys who have stated that they wear skirts frequently, why I’ve never seen anyone else wearing one. And I get around quite a bit, I do a lot of travelling for work. And no woman has ever complimented me on my skirt, maybe my fashion sense is much worse than I thought?
All the people that say they wear them only wear them at home away from public places. Thats why you never see them. I dont see anybody else either.
