Timewaster: Gravity Game

picture-2.pngIf you let yourself play this nifty little flash game past the second level you’ll never get any work done for the rest of the day. It’s a pretty simple, smooth running gizmo that involves a rolling ball propelled only by your left and right directional keys, over an increasingly complex terrain with hurdles and elevators and such, all the while combating, (drum roll) gravity.

Simple? Sure. Easy? Ya got me. I saw this being a classic time waster a mile away, and I’ve got a lot more to do to catch up today. But you go right ahead, and if you do, let us know how far you got before you gave up or get a migraine or something.

Be warned, the electroclash music that accompanies the game comes on abruptly and is mighty loud. You can turn it off in the upper right hand corner, but you might want to kill your speakers if you’re at work.

After many frustrating tries, I finally beat what I thought was the last level. Then it acts like I can go to the next level, and it goes “There has been a glitch!” And drops me off into empty space, but telling me that there are 4 posts to light somewhere above. I fall ever farther, and farther, and farther away from what should be my goal. Its absolutely depressing. (j/k)

Fantastic timewaster, if somewhat unintuitive as to what the correct methodology for each level is. I spent a fair amount of time coming up with inventive ways to do exactly what I wasn’t supposed to do, only to find myself stuck and unable to continue.

This needs to be offered a cell phone game. I dig it quite muchly.

Over all this was a fun and interesting game. Some of the levels were more of a test of determination than of skill, but it’s an original concept fairly well executed, and a fun way to waste a couple of hours.

The final real level could have been about 10 minutes shorter if all the tiresome automated movement was taken out of the middle section IMHO, but it provided a bit of a break from rolling the little dude around.

My only real complaint is the “There has been a glitch” ‘level’. … wtf? So far as I can tell it’s just a huge empty space with 4 posts that you can never even see, let alone light. I’ve let it run until the time ran out falling straight down, holding left, and holding right. There’s nothing on any of those 3 paths that I saw. If there is anything on that level, then I’m afraid it’s just too vast an area of empty space with no landmarks of any kind to fall through blindly in the hopes that something will turn up.

3/5 from me. A good concept, and fun to play, but hampered by a few tedious moments and a truly sucky last ‘level’ of falling despair.
