Something really irks me about the way the CEO of TerraCycle, a small garden products manufacturer who is being sued by the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, is going about bringing attention to the case on the “Sued By Scotts (dot com)” blog. I can’t quite put my finger on it, especially because it sounds like TerraCycle [...]

New Host

We have migrated from our old host POE to a new server at Wing Six. Still can’t say enough good about POE—I still host my other sites there—but we’ve outgrown the standard shared hosting they offer and need something that can more easily scale to support the increased traffic we must have for this site to survive. Thank you to everyone at POE and Wing Six for the help in the migration. Readers, if you run into any snags, feel free to pass error reports on to me. In theory, there should be less errors now. We’ve already squashed several on the backend that have increased the performance quite a bit. Next up: a design refresh.

Now that it looks like the Subaru is firmly committed to making the Impreza WRX the ugliest sports car around, my inbuilt desire for an all-wheel-drive turbocharged sports sedan has swung back to Mitsubishi’s upcoming 2008 Lancer Evolution X (a.k.a. the “Evo”). This tenth-generation beauty is classy in all the ways the back-heavy WRX is [...]

Goatse.cx Auction Still Wide Open

The auction for the infamous goatse.cx domain is up to over $300k now. That seems like a bad investment. [SEO Bidding]

Project: Indoor Mushroom Growing

Today I harvested my first mushrooms from my pearl oyster block I bought from Fungi Perfecti, not even a week after I got it in the mail, sprayed it with water, and kept it under the (included) moisture tent. The little buds you see pushing out of the side of the bag in the earlier [...]

The trioBike is three vehicles in one: a bicycle, a pushchair (or “pram”), and a carrierbike hybrid the lets you store two kids up front while you power with the bike in the back. Built by a Danish company of the same name, the trioBike has already won an SAS Scanorama Award for “Best Scandanivian [...]

These are obviously just mock-ups, so I’m not sure when—or if—you’ll be able to buy a “Keyport,” which stores individual keys in an attractive sliding case. The idea is solid, but has one obvious weakness (as pointed out by on the the NOTCOT commenters): many cars these days have a microchip embedded in the keyfob [...]

Big Lebowski Action Figures

Big Lebowski Action Figures…and they’re good. Each “The Dude” figurine conspicuously bundled without an Eagles tape. [Uncrate]

Bobby “Boris” Pickett was 24 years old when his one hit wonder shot to the top of the charts in 1962, forever cementing “Monster Mash” in the public consciousness. It was a fluke, inspired by the cheesy horror flicks from the ’30s and ’40s with Boris Karloff starring as classic characters like the Mummy, the [...]

This is a commercial, but also shows you how the Jason Markk “Premium Sneaker Cleaning Solution” works. Is it better than soap? Who knows! They say it’s “finally safe for all colors,” which is something, although I can’t find an MSRP on their page. I’ll leave it to the sneaker nerds to tell me if [...]

Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels. Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them breaks and splinters. That is the “loser,” and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round.
