My Pearl Oyster grow-at-home kits from Fungi Perfecti have started to sprout—more on that in a few weeks. But I’ve gotten just about as much fun out of the FP catalog, browsing through the various products offered by the company. (What can I say? I read gardening catalogs for fun.)

Most brilliant—and there are several products in the running—have to be the “MycoSpored Oils,” biodegradable lubricants for chainsaws infused with mushroom spores, the better to cause helpful mushrooms to fruit in the stump. FP also sells “Mushroom Plugs,” which can be stuffed into cracks in spare logs to be tossed in your backyard.

But mushroom-sprouting chainsaws! That is such a great idea (and image).
