Deadliest Catch Up

So it’s become clear from last night’s episode: Blake is a real asshole. First he heads out on his own boat without any plans of where to place his pots, then when he finally turns in decent numbers he won’t take the risk and put down a string somewhere another captain hasn’t already scouted. Then he gives away Phil’s sweet spots after Phil explicit asked him not to? Screw that guy.

Obviously, it couldn’t have been that big of deal to Phil if all he did was (spoiler!) pull up one of his pots and weld it shut. (After cleaning out the crab for himself, of course.) Between that prank and the flour bombs, it was a pretty light-hearted episode, which I suspect from that and the previews that we’re in for a pretty brutal episode next week.

Dude, but Phil got out there and really lit it up to get things rolling. I mean, we got to see Phil doing what Phil does best, and for the first time I think I was ready to concede that he’s got what it takes to stick around. Then, at the very end, Blake trotted out that same ol’ same ol’ Blake schtick, and everyone was all, “Oh Blake, you’re so awesome and so cool,” even though he’s just some dipshit doofus who’s just the evolutionary Mike Boogie with frosted tips.

Oh, we’re not talking about Phil and Blake on American Idol?

    Nevermind.

Phil is a character. You could tell he got Blake pretty good on that prank, but Blake wouldn’t admit it. I liked the light-hearted nature of that episode.

Speaking of which, Sig was on the Daily Show last night. I’m not sure he was entirely in rhythm with Jon Stewart’s sense of humor, but it was good to see the show getting major props from an outlet like that.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Concerning Sig, he’s also going to be ina couple other places in the near future, so set your DVR’s.

TV Guide Channel @7:00 PM Eastern on Thurday 19.

Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 26.

Closer to home, my wife and I (and her parents) are going to a dinner at an upscale crab-house in our neighborhood next Tuesday with Sig! Tons of crab to eat, and a viewing with him of next week’s episode. Borderline cheesy, but my wife is such a big fan, it’s worth it.

    P.S. Blake… PUHHHLEAZE

Whatever happened to the fish that Sig’s guys put in Blake’s wheelhouse anyway?

i like every episode of deadliest catch where i don’t have to see some dude’s nearly severed finger over and over again. and then the surgery to stitch it up – wtf? is this the discovery health channel?

yes, otherwise, enjoying the season. can’t freaking imagine doing that kinda work.

Blake through a hissy-fit and refused to go on-camera until the crew removed it from his boat.
