growroom.jpgIt wouldn’t be proper if a theme week about urban gardening didn’t include a mention of growing dope and the like for the purpose of fun and profit.

The Drug Enforcement Agency has just released the information that on March 27th, a seemingly vacant apartment at 1895 Amsterdam Avenue was raided, revealing six rooms that served as “sophisticated hydroponic marijuana indoor grow operation”, yielding a seizure of over 700 plants between 3′ and 4′ high.

In addition to a tip which led them to visit the premises and actually smell the farm through the door, the FDNY actually aided the bust, as did ConEd, because the apartment was utilizing pirated power from at least two other apartments, along with other utilities.

Dethroner does not advocate the despicable practice growing of illegal plants for personal use or ill-gotten gain, but if we did, we’d probably recommend that you befriend your neighbors, not steal your power from them, and mind the local fire codes.

I guess that this raid will lead to some more tips regarding those indoor marijuana plantation. This makes the scope of the DEA’s job to not only consider outdoor marijuana plantation but also indoors. I think that they should start checking out those vacant apartments.

Does anyone find it in the least bit amusing that this was taking place on Amsterdam Ave? Fuck! . . . I guess its just me again.

No I found it ironic too. Im just wondering what took them so long to find this out. Even shared, the type of stuff needed to grow weed indoors is a HUGE power draw. I would think someone would say “hey you know apartment 8 9 and 10 sure uses a lot of power 24/7.”

I seriously doubt that these guys were stealing power from their neighbors. It doesn’t take long to realize that your power bill went up 600%. $10 says it was the people renting the two other apartments that were running the whole operation.
