So here we are, three weeks in. Can’t say as I feel much thinner, although my energy level is way up. I have spent the last three weeks watching the scale go down, but until I saw the comparison photo above I wondered exactly where the hell all this supposedly lost weight had gone. I hadn’t looked at the “before” pics since I took them, so when I saw these two photos next to each other this morning I was pretty astounded. Was I really that much fatter three weeks ago!? Well, er, yes! I was. Proof positive that this thing is working, and working pretty fast.
It’s only been three weeks, but I feel like I’ve learned a lot. Aside from getting good experience in portion control, meal frequency, and nightly reinforcement of how much vegetation I should be eating versus meat, I’ve also learned a tremendous deal of self control. You’d think after quitting smoking that one would fancy himself the Zen master of self control, but it is not so. My cube sits very near the cafeteria here, and the delicious smells of meatloaf, country fried steak, and taco salad waft through from about 10:00 to early afternoon, every day.
At first it was exceedingly annoying, not so much because I was tempted to go eat the stuff (though I was) but more because I knew I couldn’t. Even before this diet, I didn’t always eat that stuff when it was available, but I could have. It felt like a self-imposed punishment, and in a way I suppose it was punishment for letting myself go for so many years; in any case I’ve learned to actually enjoy the tempting odors. So what if I can’t give in and eat it? I can enjoy the smell of it, in the same way that I enjoy the occasional waft of tobacco while not wanting to actually smoke it myself.
Unfortunately I did not begin the workout program as anticipated last week. I didn’t end up starting the cardio part until this week, but I plan on keeping up with it from here on out. I will try to work in the strength training as soon as possible.
Now for this week’s stat update:
Date: 04-4-2007 (Days on program: 21)
Weight: 209 (Total lost: 18 pounds)
BMI: 31.8 (Category: Obese)
Belly: 42″ (Started: 45″)
Wow, that’s a big difference in only three weeks! i’m impressed. I’m surprised you’re still technically considered obese, though. That seems a tad harsh.
I agree, and the accuracy of BMI is open for debate; I’m just going by the most commonly used metric.
Looks good! I’m working out looks like I may have to try a diet like this at some point.
I’ve been on the fat-busting train myself. About 10 more pounds and I’ll return to my sexy beast status.
Good job with sticking to your guns, Ryan. It’s far from easy.
Looking good! Sometimes I wish I had made a before picture, just to clearly see the difference, but I really didn’t want to be confronted that badly.
BMI is more an easy classification system, not the end-all of metrics. You might want to try a body fat test. It scared the hell out of me for the opposite reason: I scored a seemingly healthy 21 on the BMI, but I turned out to be 26% fat on a bodyfat test - men are obese from 25% fat up.
Luckily, my own diet has me down to 21% now… not quite there yet, but we’re going places.
WOW. GREAT JOB!
You’re doing a great job and getting really good results. The cardio will really help, too, just don’t get mad when you start strength training and you start putting on muscle. You can’t go by the scale as much when you strength train since muscle weighs more than fat. You will continue to look better and better, though, and that is all that counts!!!
Holy crap, Ryan - you look awesome! Way to go, man.
Damn man, I’m so proud. You’ve nearly caught me in the total pounds lost department and in just 3 weeks. I’ve been watching my eating for almost 2 months now.
A/S/L PLZ
Good job man. Keep it up - I’ve been keeping my portions down lately and have lost 10 pounds easy.
Honad, you might consider trying this stuff. It seems to be ridiculously effective. I certainly didn’t expect such a fast and dramatic change! I am really looking forward to seeing where I’ll be in another 3 weeks.
Keep it up! Even better than a before picture are before pants. I wish I had kept those before I dropped 87 pounds. Keep the fat pants!!
This seems like a thinly disguised advertisement for the diet plan company you are using.
If not, congrats although 18 pounds in 21 days without really any exercise is hard to believe.
Jebus I need to go on a diet.
Sounds like you are off to a great start.
The only thing I am worried about is the lack of an exercise regimen. Diet works in the short term. Exercise puts in place the muscle for long-term success.
Good luck!
I don’t know if you’re joking or not, but it’s a fair observation so I should state outright: Aside from being a satisfied customer, I have no relationship with the company that produces the products I’m using. If it seems like an advertisement, it’s only because it’s actually working and I’m pleased with it.
On the other hand, if they’re looking for a well-compensated spokesperson…
That is amazing. I’ve lost about 10 pounds the first week of medifast. I think this is the easiest diet ever. Congrats and keep on keepin on.
Yeah, I am down 11 and its only been a week. The food sucks, but it is tolerable when you see that pounds drop off. Thanks for the motivation Mean! You look great!!!
Good Job, Ryan. Keep going!
