touchsynth.jpg The reacTable is so awesome, this is to be filed under: “I Want”, or, “I am no longer impressed by my huge collection of pirated softsynths and sequencers.” The Barcelona-based Music Technology Group from the Pompeu Fabra University are mind-blowing wizards.

The reactable is a multi-user electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface.

It’s actually not new-news, as it was first being designed and discussed openly in ‘04, and the debut performances were featured prominently in a few music conferences in ‘05. Unfortunately, it is not yet commercially produced, but there are downloadable simulators and the like available from the reacTable website. That page practically gives away the store to any industrious geek squad who has the time, resources, and wherewithal to follow the detailed instructions.

If that doesn’t do enough to dazzle, make sure that you check out the “Related” page; dozens of reacTable-related devices and other various bizarre musical curiosities listed there.
