This is the parking lot of a building on the Utrecht University campus, in Utrecht, The Netherlands. [Google Map]

‘Somebody*’ decided that we needed a bigger parkinglot, so ’somebody’ thought it best to cut down all the beautiful trees on and next to the parking lot. ‘Somebody’ didn’t think it wise to tell anybody about this, so they just came for a day last week and simply cut every single tree down. I expected that ’somebody’ will now pour on some more tarmac, and then we’ll have another place to put more and more cars…

* please feel free to replace ’somebody’ by ‘the cuntly bastards’

The jerkwads’ results after the jump. The great irony is that it doesn’t appear to have made any additional space.

    Maybe it wasn’t a space thing…maybe it was sap or other stuff falling from the trees on to the cars?

    The first picture is fake. A clear photoshop

    Hard to accurately compare the images, given that the “after” is shot during a different season when the leaves have fallen.

    I’m pro-tree but I give this story a solid “meh”.

    I just don’t see how they are fitting any more cars then before, heh.

    @Darrell

    Um…no.
    Check out the GoogleMap link.

    as the one who made the photos, I can assure you it isn’t fake. The bastards just cut down all the trees.

    Yeah Christopher, okay. It was just the sap. That’s okay then.

    And Darrell – you wouldn’t know a Photoshop job if the front page of the Weekly World News smacked you in the face. The color difference is caused by the blacktop heating the (previously) accompanying vegetation.

    And finally, of course it’s real. Have you ever talked to university bureaucrats? This is exactly how they think.

    So they just cut down the trees in the middle of the lot (and maybe the ones in the foreground? Or did the photographer nix those so he could get a better shot?), and not all the way around that is implied by the changing of the season?

    Meh. I’d probably be more pissed that my car would be super hot at the end of the day whereas before it was covered by shade. Who builds trees in a parking lot like that anyway? At least have medians or something.

    update: last night 12 cars at the parkinglot had their windows smashed. It wasn’t me!
