An interesting and civil discussion at Ruhlman’s blog precipitated by a column from a cattle rancher in the Times about Smithfield Farms decision to phase out “gestation cages,” which studies have suggested cause “crated sows [to exhibit] behavior characteristic of humans with severe depression and mental illness.” Kill ‘em all, I say, but give them a pleasant imprisonment.
