header_logo.jpgI probably should have been posting a great deal this week about alternative energy sources, there’s so much to say on the matter.

My sister Joanna works for Green Mountain Energy, the largest retail provider of cleaner electricity to residential and commercial customers in the U.S. Green Mountain’s electricity comes primarily from wind, water, solar, biomass, geothermal, and natural gas. Being that the electric industry, as she says, “produces the largest amount of industrial pollution, more CO2 than all the cars and trucks on the road combined,” my little eco-warrior is keenly interested in cleaner energy sources. Joanna pulls my slack and then some.

When I spoke to her earlier this week about the subject for a possible article, she warned me that it was obviously bigger than could easily be distilled into a few pithy paragraphs, and suggested a few articles that could focus on specific topics: being a sometimes musician, I became particularly intrigued by the Sustainable Waves company.

Sustainable Waves is a solar powered sound and staging company that provides 100% pollution-free concerts. Their modest stage, including lighting effects as well as a powerful PA stack is powered by energy collected entirely from the sun.

Our solar powered sound system and stage is working-pumping example of a complete design. Our system gives performers an opportunity to educate the community about the benefits of renewable energy while delivering a concert with state of the art sound quality.

Together with Green Mountain energy, Sustainable Waves has just announced the formation of a program called Eco Tunes. The Idea behind this is to provide a carbon-offsetting program for music tours and events. They’ll be teaming up with In Ticketing and All Access Today, to offer carbon offsets; in short, when you support this progam by purchasing tickets for their events, you’ll be probiced with 1,000 kilowatts of certified renewable energy certificates which will offset approx. 1,3000 poinds of CO2.

Of course, with the sort of hippie-centric tree hugging shows that I would expect corporations such as this might put on, I’d expect that the stuff burned and smoked at these shows might make up the difference. Just saying.
