Beer Friday: Guinness Seeing Red

guinness_red.jpgGuinness is well-known and much-loved by many o’ beer drinker. It’s a dry stout with a trademark out-of-style “tang” that has been around for ages, and is one of the most successful beer brands in the world. It also happens to be one of the few beers people cut their teeth on that doesn’t end up an embarrassing memory. Guinness is best known for its unique slow pour and the creamy head, along with its dark body, which is blacker than the blackest black (times infinity). (But actually brown.)

Recently, there has been a “beta test” of sorts to introduce a new beer: Guinness Red. Just like the name implies, Guinness Red has a distinctive dark red body, which comes from the barley being roasted more lightly in the style of an Irish red ale. It is on trial at a several UK pubs, should carry the same alcohol content (4.1%), and cost the same as a regular pint of Guinness. If you’re a UK Dethroner reader, you can follow the link to see a list of pubs that are piloting the new beer. If you’ve already tried it, we’d love to hear what you think about it.

Hello Ladies, is it anything like the old Beamish Red I can no longer find? Sadly, it seems to be unavailable in Norfolk, home of Real Ale and Really Serious drinkers. Chow for Now.
