I just discovered two wonderful things: Dan, from the always fantastic Dan’s Data, also writes a blog. (Even though Dan’s Data is pretty blog-like already.) Welcome to my newsreader!

But perhaps even better, there’s a TV show called Tank Overhaul, where a team of scrapyard savants overhaul vintage military machines. The main cannons of these beauties are not the only thing that is now fully extended.

Unfortunately, it looks like Tank Overhaul runs on History Television, a Canadian network that I don’t get on Time Warner. It’s off to a torrent tracker I go.

‘Tank Overhaul’ is shown on the Military Channel in the US. I don’t know about Time Warner, but I get the channel on DirecTV.

Well AWESOME. I’ll will have to keep an eye out.

I’ve watched it on Time Warner Dallas, I think it was on Discovery HD Theatre tho.

Tank Overhaul is superb. Although if you’d told me I’d love it before I’d seen it, I’d never have believed you.

I love the ones with the Isle of Wight boys. They rock, in a peculiarly English way.

was on time warner new york about a month ago, no idea, it was ok but you kind of got the feeling these guys were hanging out with a video camera and a beer rather than approaching it as a serious business.

What undertaking could be more serious than one which is accompanied by a video camera and beer? Borderline blasphemy there!

I actually work for the company that produced the program here in Canada.

The show is broadcast on HD Theatre and Military in the US, History and Historia in Canada, UKTV History in the UK, Discovery Germany and across Eastern Europe and Scandinavia on Viasat networks.

A lot of work (and no beer that I know of!) went into producing this HD series and we are in the planning stages of producing 4 more episodes to air late next year. We are also planning on releasing the program on DVD in North America and the UK in the next little while.

The Isle of Wight episode is my favourite as well and they’ve since told me that they’ve had a lot of visitors to the museum after watching the show.

Glad you liked the show and stay tuned for the second season and dvd launch!!

I just recently got into watching Tank Overhaul and I think it’s really great! As I watch these guys from the Isle of Wight episodes which are the only ones that I have seen so far, it leaves me with huge question. Where in the world is the money coming from to acquire all these tanks, parts, and a complete team of men that do all this work? I realize that they have this museum which I am sure brings in some money but there is just no way it can be bringing in that kind of dough! Maybe in the first episodes they showed where the money was coming from. There has to be someone with deep pockets behind this?

Why stop asking… been over a year since anyone posted…. they are running a marathon on HDTHR today.

    Patrick,

In answer to your question about “where the money comes from”. I saw one of the earlier episodes, and there is an self made English millionaire who owns one of these museums in Britain that provides the funding. I’m not sure if he backs the Wight folks.

Hi. Does anybody know when the next series of Tank Overhaul is due out? I am in England and my husband and I belong to the UKTank Club. We run large scale tanks, 1/4, 1/6, 1/8 at model and military shows. Early this year we were at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford and my husband was filmed for about 20 minutes running two of his tanks but we have no idea when it is due out.
    Thanks.

Anybody know what the soundtrack is? I hear its pretty cool.

Are there DVD’s of the shows? I would love to buy my husband a set but I can’t find them anywhere!

This is one of the most brilliant, irritating shows I’ve ever seen. They spend fully half the show with the camera wandering around showing establishing shots of the surrounding countryside. When they’re not doing that, they’re discussing the American M1 Abrams for no reason. If they stuck to the “tank overhaul” part, they’d have me hooked.

I contacted the people who filmed my husband at Duxford. Apparently they are no longer involved in the programme as there was some kind of falling out. They did say that the new series should be out in the fall. As it is a Canadian programme I suppose it will be a while until we get it in the UK.
