bonsai_sandals.jpgI’ve made my love for sheepskin slippers pretty well known. It’s just really comfortable stuff. But it does tend to be warm, which is why I’m a bit dubious of these “Bonsai Sandals,” flip-flops with a sheepskin lining.

The company claims that the sheepskin actually helps feet stay dry by wicking away moisture, but I can’t help but think these suckers would get grody toot suite. I am reminded of the girl with whom I once went on a business trip who brought along a tattered old stuffed bear, its fur matted into tiny dreadlocks, because it smelled like her beloved dog. Somehow I’d expect that’s what these sandals would turn into during a long summer.

I am pretty sure they are meant to be used during the winter time. I have seen a lot of people wearing these types (not that brand in particular) of sandals this winter but of course I do live in Alabama. So we don’t have to worry about walking through snow in these things.

Perhaps they would be good as slippers instead of outdoor use?

Those are some crazy looking sandals. I highly recommend Rainbow Sandals, I have had my current pair for about 3 years, and they are the first pair of sandals I have had for any length of time that don’t smell like a wet dog after 3 weeks of summer use.

Wow. Josh, you just made my entire year! I’ve been wondering about this very company recently – if they were still around and if i could even come close to finding something similar if they weren’t . My family used to spend a month in Laguna Beach every summer, and they always had a booth set up at the local craft fair. They did custom work back then and made them while you watched…it was my favorite part of being dragged around the place :)

    Hi there,

I’m designer and sole proprietor of Bonsai Sandals and I wanted to thank you for the mention! To answer your questions — if you have really sweaty feet AND it’s warm outside, and you’re not walking around, your feet may get a bit damp. But that’s only when it’s very warm and your feet are stationary. When you’re walking around, the act of stepping actually does a pretty good job of ventilating the footbed and keeping it dry. The sandals are also completely (hand) washable, which prevents any grodyness. Lastly, sheepskin is a very different fiber than cotton or other synthetics (that might be used in a ‘dreadlocked teddybear’). It’s much more durable, handles wear and tear better, and both absorbs and releases moisture more efficiently.

I’d urge you to try a pair if you’re interested — you can always return them if you don’t like them.

    Thanks,
    Alex

My husband and I actually ordered two pairs of your Bonsai sandals about 4 wks. ago and we have yet to receive them in the mail. I am anxious to receive them, I am orginially from California and I love to show off my feet whenever I can and this seems like to perfect way to help my feet stay cool here in Virginia which I have resided for more than 6 years.

So i’m patiently awaiting for a response via email or my sandals.

These sandals dont last long.. and there isnt any customer service whatsoever… You can always return them if you dont like them.. what BS alex.. I emailed your company without any reply for help.. I got my sandals for 3 months and one of them.. the furs all came off… what a rip.. buy beware and stay away from these.. i found out there are soo many good sandals out there.. like timberland’s smartwool which is basically the same stuff but made with quality.. and rainbow’s sandals which never breaks… forget these banzai ones they crash and burn

I wish I had found these comments earlier. I have a pair of Bonsai sandals that has basically falling apart after minimal wear over two weeks. Customer service is dragging their feet. I feel like I was cheated out of $40.

We LOVE these and wear them all year long. I was just getting ready to order 4 more pairs!
