Coolest Superbowl Commercial Ever
8 Comments Published by Alex January 29th, 2007 in Sports, TV. Share ThisHey, I drive a PC, but this was just bad ass. I remember watching this when it was televised, I was 13 years old, and I had actually just finished reading 1984. This knocked us all flat. I don’t even remember who was playing, but when I rediscovered this commercial a few years ago, it still gave me shivers. Still does, now that I’m picturing BSG’s Kara Thrace swinging that hammer…
I have watched very few other superbowls since then, I don’t know about any midgame commercials that could top it. Can anybody beat this one?
Here are some other memorable ones:

For some reason the 1984 spot only ranked #4 even though it created the whole superbowl commercial introduction thing we see today. Note: the list predates the GoDaddy wardrobe malfunction.
Here is another list:

I’m also surprised that the second CareerBuilder monkey commercial didn’t make either list.
If I remember right, that was the first real “Super Bowl commercial,” in the sense of a big, expensive commercial aired as an event in and of itself.
If it does hold that honor and I’m not just making that up, it certainly deserves it.
All I have to say is thank baby Jesus for inadequate bra support.
I can’t get over her Hooters ensemble. It’s like a car wreck.
I also remember when that ad was broadcast and even though I’m a PC user I must admit that Apple really managed to get their message out in that one.
Speaking of George Orwell you really must take a look at this excellent site:

The 1984 section is here:

(check out the pics of Orwell’s manuscript for 1984 – very cool stuff!)
Yeah, I was 13 too. High Five!
Gives me gooseflesh, it does.
Funny, I’ve never seen the commercial before.
I’ve heard about it over the years as the greatest Super Bowl spot ever, but now that I’ve seen it, I have to say I’m disappointed. Maybe it’s one o those “you had to be there” situations or a certain numbness to dystopian settings after seeing it done to death in Sci-Fi flicks.
