One of Kottke’s readers points out a strange Super Bowl anomaly: “The “Super Bowl Shuffle” earned The Chicago Bears a [1987] Grammy nomination for best Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance – Duo or Group. They lost to Prince and the Revolution’s “Kiss”.”

Prince will be performing the half-time show at this year’s Super Bowl. While it might be natural to presume that the Bears might take this as a chance for a rematch against Prince, I would ask that the Bears instead tackle space and time to blot out the people who thought up the Super Bowl Shuffle in the first place.

My friends and I were talking about the Bears just the other night, and concluded that if Chicago wins The Bowl this year, they’re no doubt going to shoot a Super Bowl Shuffle II – if they haven’t already.

The only difference is that no way it could match the original; todays Bears would take their rapping way too seriously – there’s something to be said for a nice, steaming serving of cheese.
