Reader Pete J. suggests that the “singed look” could be the next big thing in hairstyling. It’s just so stupid I could see it catching on. (Although this video is clearly all a lark.)

I’ve burnt my hair a few times. It pretty much balls up on the ends and those go away after a few days. I won’t if you could trim everything down with fire like this if it would actually give a unique texture?

Yes, because there’s nothing better than the smell of burnt hair…..

I’ve cut my friends’ hair a few times with a barbeque lighter. They liked the really damaged look. I thought it was all my idea but then I heard of high end salons doing it as well.

Pete’s got it right… about the only thing worse than the smell of burnt hair is burnt skin. Let’s just not go there.

High end salons? You mean like the sorts of places you go to get your hair washed $17), clipped ($26), and glued back into shape with System Biolage or other goo ($17. only available at salons)? “High end” mostly because of all the lifts and tucks, I’m sure.

The burnt hair thing did not catch on with the Michael Jackson/Pepsi fiasco, but now it’s “high fashion”? Um, a resounding no to that idea.

Thanks, I’ll keep going to my barber, who for $11. gives me a good cleanup every few weeks. They’ll even trim the beard or do a full facial shave!

Oh, and keep the flames away from my hair.
