The late, great Lane Meyer, played by John Cusack in the 1985 flick Better Off Dead, made sweet on Monique over the engine bay of a 1967 Camaro. A fan name of Jeff was so taken with the car that he tracked it down, despite the fact that the man who owned it during the filming of the movie had sold it. It was in pretty rough shape, with a tacked-on spoiler, the beginning of rust creeping in, and lots of cracked interior vinyl, but several thousand of dollars worth of restoration finds the Camaro back in fighting form.

Jeff put together a web site telling how he tracked the Camaro down, complete with unnecessary quotes from the movie playing in the background while you read it.

This segment of Better of Dead always cracked me up. He paid dirt for the “pile of junk at the end of the driveway” and then he and the cute little french girl did some basic maintenance (changed the oil, air filter, turned a bolt or two) and all of a sudden the car looked like it had a frame off restoration.

They could’ve at least SeaFoamed the car for fucks sake.

What? You mean something done in a mid-80s comedy movie wasn’t completely realistic? Holy crap!

Anyway, I have always had a special place in my heart for the first generation of the Camaro. And this one was a gorgeous example in the movie and definitely now that the guy went to the trouble of restoring it. Beautiful.
