During an—ahem—spirited discussion on the Dethroner Forum about the death of the classic cocktail, it was discovered that there is a name for putting a shot of vodka in a glass of beer: “yorsh.”
According to Wikipedia, yorsh is of Russian origin, typically drunk after a toast in one quick, throat-burning chug. As Dethroner Forum member Jeremy was told by a Siberian woman, it’s the perfect breakfast drink on the harsh steppes when it’s “too early for straight vodka.”
Isn’t that just close kin to the classic “Depth Charge”? A shot of bourbon in a pilsner type beer. And there’s always the “Boilermaker” famous throughout Indiana. Same concept, shot and beer in series.
I’ve read recently that Yorsh should ideally be a 50/50 mix. Makes it a bit stronger than your Boilermaker or Depth Charge.
