The Bad Old Days: Blatz Beer Benefits Babies

Actually, a low-alcohol beer would be pretty nutritious and most—if not all—of the alcohol should be filtered out by the mother’s liver.
Ah, who am I kidding? I just think drunk babies are hilarious.
My wife’s mother actually did drink a beer everyday when she was nursing. Apparently that was a trend in the ’70s – drinking a beer allegedly helped produce healthier milk!
This isn’t even a joke — drinking beer is *still* considered by many to help with milk production in nursing mothers; it’s advice regularly given out by doctors.
It’s probably crap advice, though:

my friend’s doctor gave her that advice, and this was just a couple of years ago. not to get drunk, but that a beer a day wasn’t a bad idea.
honestly, it’s probably just because it relaxes the mom and makes nursing easier.
I think guiness still sells a low-alcohol extra-dense beer for mothers in Ireland.
