According to my rigorous three-seconds of Googling, the story of deep-fried Coca-Cola first leaked out of the dripping fry baskets of the Texas State Fair about a month ago, but this is the first that time I’ve actually seen a picture of the frightening concoction, made from:
…Coca-Cola-flavored batter. He then drizzles Coke fountain syrup on it. The fried Coke is topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry. Gonzales said the fried Coke came about just from thinking aloud.
This picture was sent to me without a source, so if you actually know where it came from, I’d be happy to link it.

It’s taking all my abilities to not ridicule the living shit out of this.
We just had the Kentucky State Fair last month. The featured snacks that everyone was talking about were Deep Fried Snickers Bars. I didn’t get a chance to try one, but they were apparently pretty good.
This reminds me of that bizarre confection that was sweeping Ukraine a couple of years ago. Apparently, the most popular street-vendor snack in Kiev was a stick of hardened pork-fat dipped in chocolate. Kinda like a room-temperature pork-fat Klondike bar on a stick.
The story goes that this thing was becoming so popular that because of the health risks the Ukrainian medical community had to go public and implore people not to eat it.

Apparently it was a big hit at the Texas State Fair…“Fried Coke – Contest Finalist – Smooth spheres of Coca-Cola-flavored batter are deep fried, drizzled with pure Coke fountain syrup, topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry. Served in souvenir contoured glasses. (Vandalay Industries – Nimitz Dr. and Midway)”…
I’ve actually tried Deep Fried Mars Bars up here in Toronto, Canada at a fair. As disgusting as it sounds, its actually not too bad.
Far as I know they chill the mars bars, cut it into 6 pieces, batter it with choux pastry (thats the stuff they use to make funnel cakes) and deep fry it. The results is a fragrant and crispy outer coating with the mars bar warm and slightly melted inside.
I had 1 of the 6 pieces, that was all I felt like eating.
Y’know, as death snacks go, this is not so bad.
I’d like to try it; I’m nostalgic for the 1970’s death snacks.

i think i had a minor heart attack just looking at that picture. as manly as i may think i am, i’d love to see the nutritional facts on one of these bad boys.
these deep fried snickers bars intrigue me however!
In Scotland it’s pretty standard for kids to buy chocolate bars (Mars is a favourite, as are Creme Eggs) and take them down to the local chip shop to be battered.
Never heard of deep-fried coke before tho ;-)
You can keep your Coke-flavored batter and Ukranian lardsicles. I’m sticking with deep-fried hearts of romaine.
I was at a wine fest/town party in Grapevine, Texas a few weeks ago. I had bought some food and drink tickets and had to many left to throw away before we left. I was looking for the deep fried coke but didn’t find it. So I said heath be damned and went for the next best thing. Deep fried chocolate covered Twinkie. Sounded like fun, but really, it just wasn’t that good. I was wishing I had went for the deep fried pickels (very good, had then as spears and slices before) or one of the fried candy bars (they had snickers and Milky way)

Every year the Texas State fair holds a best new food contest. I think the deep fried coke won this year. Last year the theme was Elvis, so the winning food was a deep fried peanut butter and banana sandwich. Sidenote: every time discussions of deep fried foods occur online, it becomes clearer and clearer that Texas and Scotland are soulmates.
Both the deep-fried Coca-Cola and Stephen Crowley’s position are good arguments against taxpayer supported medical care.
If I’m not mistaken, that photo was published on the Dallas Morning News website along with an article on the artery-hardening substance.

kentucy state fair, fried snickers… so…. last… …. well, three years ago, when they were at the Texas State fair, in fall 2003… not surprising, of course, since the corn dog was invented at the Texas State fair back in 1942.

I say the sugar would rot your teeth and destroy your insides. Too many obesity for sure. I’m not obese though. I’d try it once may be; but I’m sure I wouldn’t eat anymore after. What is in the batter? If it’s animal contents forget it!

Ridicule it all you want, but Gonzales grossed $157,500 from the month-long State Fair of Texas. That doesn’t sound too shabby to me!
It’s Fair Food… no need to bash those who choose to indulge. It’s not as if they are eating it every day. Now drinking Coke every day, that’s another story!

At my local RSL (Retired Services League) Club, which is really a place where the old folks hang out. They serve deep fried Mars Bars…
Its fun sized mars bars that have been covered in the same coating that they cover deapfried Ice Cream in, in Asia. Not only is this THE MOST wonderful thing in the world, but after 1 (Because it comes with two of these and a scoop of Ice Cream) you are done and you regret every bit you ate. Its not until about an hour after when you regret not taking that last morsel!
I recomend it to anyone with a fast metabolism!

In Maine we have the Common Ground Fair with lots of healthy snacks and natural foods. Maybe it would be a good idea for other fairs to go that route, instead of encouraging massive coronaries and arterial shutdown, we could encourage healthy eating and responsibility for our bodies.
hey i hate coca cola it is so bad for you they put so so so many cemicals in it if you took a really really old penny and dipped it in coca cola after about two minutes you take it out it will be like brand new
and if you took stake and poured coca cola all over it and cooked it the stake would disolve
and that is why i dont drink coca cola
I see alot of negativity about indulgence. Fairs and festivals are a place fro celebration and yes EXCESS! Anyone in their right mind wouldn’t eat such tasty jumk food on a daily basis. GET REAL!
