Humanity is a wretched thing. Given the two greatest gifts a species has ever known, fire and the ability to control it, we have gone on to poison our planet, pave over its wilderness, and consume its beasts over pits of burning vegetation.
And damn if they aren’t tasty as hell.
There’s not much we’ve done as a species that’s a clear improvement over the paradise of our non-sentience, but cooking is clearly one of our great achievements. Modern cuisine offers tastes and textures unconceivable to previous generations with an accessibility that few other parts of our culture provide.
This week on Dethroner we’ll be discuss simple recipes for obtaining maximal flavor with a minimum of effort, locating the pre-packaged food that doesn’t suck and finding ways to improve the stuff that does, and giving you the basic techniques to keep yourself fed without relying on take-out and fast food.
Also, duh: Chicks dig a man who can cook.
As usual, your tips, suggestions, recipes, and questions are very welcome at “tips WHIRR dethroner.com.”

Sweet. You’ve gotta eat, so make it good.
Check out Cusine at home. Best cooking magazine out there.
Fuck Gourmet or Bon Appetite. I get all three, and the last two are pompous, ad ridden tripe. Their recipies are mixed at best. There are some good ones, but most are too time consuming and don’t have the bang for the buck.
Big fan of Alton Brown here. I do have to modify some of his cooking to be less artery-clogging, but he really helps me understand the chemistry of what I’m doing. His books are a kitchen reference par excellence.
Eating Well is a good cooking mag, a lot of seasonal fare.
Cooking Light has lots and lots of recipes, which is nice. You can always undo their hardwork by adding the fat back in.
Suggestion: run a most impressive date recipe for the kitchen impaired.
